Saturday’s Race Recap from Saratoga:

(All odds US)

Saratoga:

Race 3: 5th@ 8.10/1

Race 4: 3rd@ 3.15/1

Race 5: SCRATCH

Race 6: 7th@ 26.00/1

Race 7: 1st@ 16.40/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 10: 2nd@ 3.50/1

In Race 3, Devils Only Friend pressed the pace and tired. In Race 4, Best Coast was looking like she was second best behind a runaway winner for trainer Tom Amoss, but got nipped on the wire and settled for third. After a scratch in Race 5, we had the debuting Sail With the Wind in Race 6 who raced well back early and rallied only mildly late. In Race 7, Seize the Gray caught a group of supposed “killers” in this two-year-old maiden heat and took them gate to wire at 16/1!!! In the Grade 2 Jim Dandy we came within a nose of back to back wins as Saudi Crown led every step except the last one losing by a dirty nose to favored Forte after Forte spent most of the stretch blasting Angel of Empire and then bumped Saudi Crown before the wire. Irad Ortiz gets special privileges here at Saratoga.

Let’s close out another week at Saratoga. It rained for most of the afternoon on Saturday so I’m handicapping with that in mind.

Saratoga:

Race 9: Highest Honors - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 8/1)

“8/1 on Irad Ortiz and Chad Brown in a distance grass stakes race at Saratoga. I can’t believe I didn’t bet it!!” That’s what the rest of the racing crowd at Saratoga will be saying after the running of the Grade 2 Bowling Green at 1 3/8ths miles on turf. This 7-year-old horse’s - not gelding’s - lone stakes win was in the Curlin on dirt a few years ago. You don’t find many runners this old still racing with their (ahem) testicles still attached but Highest Honors is hanging onto them for as long as he can. Presumably looking for a turf stakes win so he can retire and live the life of a stud. Man, he’s been a model of consistency but just hasn’t been able to slam it home and get his win. I think today’s the day. His career top speed figure came at today’s distance, he’s running second off a layoff, gets a positive rider switch back to Irad, and his race in the Grade 1 Manhattan was better than it looks on paper as he had a wide trip that day. As long as Irad doesn’t murder anyone in the stretch drive, take this one to the bank.

Best of luck to all our members playing Sunday’s races from Saratoga!
