Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: 3rd@ 17.00/1

Race 2: 6th@ 3.50/1

Race 5: 2nd@ 4.50/1

Race 6: 9th@ 45.10/1

Our Friday began with Hardy Choice - off at 17/1 fighting the rating of his rider early in the race. At the top of the stretch Kevin Krigger tried switching him out but he ran into a blind switch and motored on for third. In Race 2, Confer got the pace in front of her and as predicted Mama Maria wasn’t able to navigate the 7 furlong distance at 1/1 but once Confer hit the front she almost immediately began to flatten out eventually fading to last. In Race 5, Beth’s Dream was able to stalk the early pace and blow out the field as Soul of an Angel closed nicely for second. In Race 6, Memories R Magic was never a factor.

We’ve got a little Saturday stakes action here at Gulfstream with fast and firm conditions beneath sunny skies. I’ll be honest, I didn’t like today’s card. Too many losing propositions so I’m playing cautiously. Turf sprints, claiming races and polytrack races aren’t my strong suits at Gulfstream so that eliminates the bulk of the card for us. Two - two point win bets are the plan. This is likely to be the last weekend of mediocre racing for a while. Let’s get to it!

Gulfstream Park:

Race 3: Magical Power - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 2/1)

Maidens line up to race a mile on the main track. The debuting Magical Power is our 2/1 morning line favorite. He hails from the 22% winning barn of Todd Pletcher who has won 27% of one mile races ( 6 for 22) over the last five years with three year olds making their debut here at Gulfstream at the one mile distance. Magical Power is by the rookie sire Good Magic, who’s won with 16% of his debut runners and with 20% of his routers. I love the worktab as this one has several five furlong works including his most recent where he worked an identical time to stablemate and older stakes winner Pioneer of Medina. All systems go!

Race 9: Bel Ami - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 8/1)

Three-year-olds race a mile and an eighth on turf. Our selection Bel Ami is actually on the “also eligible” list and will only run if at least two runners scratch from the body of the race. If that happens I think Bel Ami rates a VERY strong chance. Our morning line favorite is King d’Oro from the Todd Pletcher barn who’s also on the also eligible list. He’s one ahead of us on the list but on form Bel Ami is the one I want. This grey son of Flintshire finished a fast closing third in his first start at today’s distance blowing right by King d’Doro in the process. Trainer Christophe Clement has been on fire all meet long and is winning at a 29% clip. Workout from Feb. 11 matches up with Far Bridge, who’s produced two very fast races so far for this barn.

Best of luck to all our members playing Saturday’s races from Gulfstream!
