Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: 7th@ 16.10/1

Race 6: 6th@ 1.00/1

Race 8: 2nd@ 2.10/1

Race 9: 7th@ 25.50/1

Our Thursday began like a lead balloon as Quick Quick Whit, stretching out from dirt sprints from his rail post wasn’t ridden aggressively toward the early lead and instead sat behind horses through a pokey 25 second opening 1/4 mile. From there it was all over. Was looking for him to take them from start to finish but he didn’t have much punch and faded late. In Race 6, we took the speed on the rail on turf once again. This time with Calibrator and he was sent hard to the lead. The problem was so was Border Town. That set the stage for a speed collapse as Call Curt closed for an 8/1 upset. In Race 8 we had the returning Great Navigator who was 4/1 on the morning line but went off at 2/1 got a good stalking trip outside and was able to beat everyone but Ticking who took a licking early but kept on ticking. Finally we wrapped up the day with Tar Heel Girl who had a brutal trip in her turf debut, tracked mid-pack behind a torrid speed duel, dropped back on the turn and rallied only mildly late.

Tough sledding today. Great Navigator gave us our best shot but wasn’t up to the task.

Longshots aplenty for Friday’s races here at Gulfstream. We’re forecasting for fast and firm track conditions. Let’s get going!

Gulfstream Park:

Race 6: Memories R Magic - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 20/1)

More maidens race a mile and a sixteenth on turf here and a few of these have been knocking on the door but they’re all searching for their first win. Memories R Magic is going to get very overlooked here despite not running badly in his first two starts. This four year old son of the great Winter Memories (Dual Grade 1 winner on turf who won 7 of 11 turf starts including 6 Graded Stakes) is from the family of Memories of Silver, another multiple Grade 1 turf winner and winner of 9 of 15 turf starts. He also has two siblings that were multiple turf race winners. So the breeding is definitely there. And the low profile connections will ensure a huge price. His top speed figure (73) matches up with 7/2 shot Bosque Redondo who owns a top speed figure of 74. Last time out he ran 1 1/2 miles in his second career start and didn’t run all that badly after setting the pace. He comes into this with a pair of very fast workouts and their barn removed blinkers for his third career start. Has every right to improve and don’t sell too short at long odds.

As always wishing our members the very best of luck on Friday’s races from Gulfstream Park!
