Saturday’s Race Recap from Gulfstream:

(All odds US)

Gulfstream Park:

Race 2: 3rd@ 1.00/1

Race 3: 8th@ 10.10/1

Race 4: 2nd@ 6.90/1

Race 10: 5th@ 22.40/1

Race 12: 4th@ 3.50/1

Race 14: 5th@ 16.20/1

In Race 2, Image of Love was away cleanly and took the lead early while setting a reasonable early pace. Was challenged on the far turn and gave way tamely and was actually lucky to salvage third in a disappointing debut effort. In Race 3, Eyes on Target was uncharacteristically rated near the back and was taken 8 wide into the stretch and had no punch after that. In Race 4, Let it Ride gunned to the early lead and set an unnecessarily fast early pace getting the opening 1/4 mile in 22.21 seconds. He turned away challenger after challenger until deep stretch when he was caught by fellow debut runner Scotland. Did all the dirty work up front. Tough loss there. In Race 10 I had a feeling Charge It would lose here at odds on and he did. I was hoping Steal Sunshine would get taken back and come with one big run but he was a little closer to the pace than I had hoped and could do no better than fifth. In Race 12, Infinite Diamond rated off a fast early pace but couldn’t quicken as much as the winner and place runner when it came time to run. She had to settle for fourth. In the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth, Shadow Dragon rated well off the early pace but it was a slow early pace and nobody was beating Forte today making his 1/2 odds look like good value.

Saturday’s Race Recap from Aqueduct:

(All odds US)

Aqueduct:

Race 9: 9th@ 83.40/1

My angle to shoot for the moon was right in theory as we took a shot at long odds 83/1 with Radio Red and he was in range til the far turn after being passed by a loose horse but he got a little leg weary in the lane finishing 9th. Raise Cain ended up with a blowout win at 23/1 odds.

We tried to slay the dragons on Fountain of Youth day with some bombs but came up empty with a 2nd a 3rd a 4th and two 5ths. Our best chance to make money ended up being Let it Ride who got nipped at 7/1 in Race 4.

We’ll wrap up another week at Gulfstream with Sunday’s races. We’re expecting fast and firm conditions again. Let’s get to work!

Gulfstream Park:

Race 10: So High - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

Turf runners go a mile and three eighths on turf in this allowance optional claiming race where So High is our selection. This runner was claimed in December 2020 by Naipaul Chatterpaul who’s mostly a claiming trainer in the New York area but he’s had success with turf marathoners before. Back in 2011 he won the Grade 1 Manhattan with Mission Approved. The last time So High ran this distance was in the Grade 1 Man O War where he put up a speed figure of 94. That day he lost by just two lengths to Grade 1 winners Channel Cat and Gufo. Granted that was in 2021 but his April 2022 start against Lonesome Fugitive where he was 28/1 was another good one. He gets a barn change to Aubrey Maragh, who’s winning at 22% and he gets Javier Castellano back in the irons. 10/1 sounds like fair value here.

Wishing our members the very best of luck wagering on Sunday’s races from Gulfstream!
