Thursday’s Race Recap from Gulfstream:
(All odds US)
Gulfstream Park:
Race 1: 6th@ 13.60/1
Race 5: 4th@ 5.20/1
Race 8: 10th@ 20.10/1
In Race 1, No Wasabi for Me was up closer to the pace than usual. She had dead aim on the leaders until about mid-stretch when the real running began, and she was passed in the drive beaten less than 2 lengths. In Race 5, Canal broke a length slow and was taken widest through the first turn. Despite this he was still in range when the real running began before getting bumped to make room for the favorite and ultimately finishing fourth. For the second day in a row there was a stewards’ inquiry involving one of our runners getting bumped but no change was made. In Race 8, Big Save was inexplicably sent up with the speed horses who proceeded to set a scorching pace of 22 and 44 for a half mile. Naruto capitalized and cashed in by closing in at 50/1 odds. That was the trip I had envisioned for Big Save but Paco Lopez had other ideas.
Reached down and came up empty today.
Staying in sunny south Florida for another brilliant day of racing at Gulfstream. Seemingly perpetual fast and firm track conditions this year. Let’s get this weekend started!
Friday at Gulfstream:
Race 6: Soupersilverdollar - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)
Three-year-old maiden claimers race a mile and a sixteenth on the turf. My choice is Soupersilverdollar who faced a few of these last time out and lost by a diminishing nose. After viewing the replay, the issue with him that day was that he got to looking around a little on the far turn so today Mark Casse equips him with blinkers for the first time. That should be just what the doctor ordered to keep his mind on business. Leading rider Irad Ortiz remains the pilot and this one has two strong works since that last race. The one to beat and here in the States he’s likely to be lower than 5/2 so if you’re one of our international players see if you can lock those morning line odds with your bookmaker!
Best of luck to all our members playing Friday’s races from Gulfstream!
