Good morning racing fans. We’re back for another week of exciting racing from around the U.S. This weekend we have two more Grade 3 races on the road to the Kentucky Derby: The Sam F. Davis from Tampa Bay Downs and the Withers from Aqueduct (which was rescheduled from this past weekend due to freezing temperatures). In the meantime we’ll look keep the momentum going at Gulfstream Park with their Wednesday card. We’re expecting fast and firm conditions beneath partly cloudy skies. Let’s get to it.
Wednesday at Gulfstream Park:
Race 9: Jumeirah - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 20/1)
Fillies and mares go a mile on turf in this allowance race to close our day out. Frosted Oats is our morning line favorite and rightly so. Trainer Bill Mott has been on fire lately and she might be best but at 8/5 odds I’ll try to beat her with Jumeirah considering they’re only 5 points apart on the speed figure scale. Jumeirah has much lower profile connections than our favorite but she’s only had two tries over this surface. Both were strong efforts. In her most recent turf effort she actually had the fastest closing final 1/4 mile. This is interesting because she had been a front runner in her prior turf start and it’s nice to see she has another dimension to her. She actually owns the field’s top Tomlinson figure and gets a pretty major rider upgrade to Paco Lopez. Four strong workouts since her last start have her ready and 20/1 odds make the value too strong to pass up.
