Friday’s Race Recap from Gulfstream Park:

(All odds US)

Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: 7th@ 13.60/1

Race 5: SCRATCH

Race 7: SCRATCH

They took the turf races off and put them onto the synthetic polytrack which foiled our plans to upend Race 1 with Uhwarrie as I felt he was better bred for turf. He was sent to the early lead and made a brief bid at the top of the stretch before fading. Our other two selections for the day scratched.

It’s Christmas Eve! And I am thankful for the gift of racing at Gulfstream Park. Fast and firm conditions are expected but I’m not going to venture a stab at any turf races just in case they rain off again so we’ll focus on dirt races only.

Let’s deck the halls with some cold hard cash!

Saturday at Gulfstream Park:

Race 2: Big John - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 9/2)

Starter optional claimers sprint 7 furlongs in this race for two year olds. Our heavy favorite is Zydeceaux who breaks on the outside but after a blowout maiden score at first asking at 5 1/2 furlongs back in August he hasn’t been able to reproduce that effort. As a matter of fact his form has only declined. Big John on the other hand is on the improve off a maiden score last time out. He was claimed from that race by sharp connections who win with 31% of their first time claims. One runner from that race has already returned to win and another missed winning by a head. Speed on the rail!

Race 7: Hihellohowareyou - 2 pts win BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)

Christmas Eve Special! Our BEST BET is a debuting two-year-old daughter of Grade 1 placed sprinter Awesome Slew out of a dam who was undefeated 2 for 2 in her career. This runner has a sibling who won five races sprinting on turf. This one was purchased for $220k which is 55x the sire’s stud fee. She’s shown high speed in the mornings and lures the nation’s top rider. If you can lock in the 5/2 morning line please do so. This one looks like she’ll debut at 3/5 here in the U.S.

As always, best of luck to all our members playing Saturday’s races from Gulfstream!
