Friday’s Race Recap from Gulfstream Park:

(All odds US)

Gulfstream Park:

Race 3: 4th@ 4.80/1

Race 7: 7th@ 2.40/1

Race 9: 3rd@ 8.70/1

In Race 3, Silver N Black stalked early and rallied only mildly for fourth. Sainthoodforbrian did not rally mildly in Race 7. As a matter of fact he plummeted to the back of the pack on the far turn after chasing a reasonable early pace. In Race 9, Heiressindy blew the break by about five lengths. That made her ranging into contention only to lose by two lengths all the more frustrating as she finished third at 8/1.

Let’s take a look at a few each from Gulfstream Park and Aqueduct. We actually have wet weather in the forecast this weekend at both tracks so I’ll be handicapping accordingly and will avoid turf racing at Gulfstream. Let’s get cookin’!

Gulfstream Park:

Race 8: Arcangelo - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/1)

Maidens sprint 6 furlongs in this race for two year olds in which only one run her has started before. Arcangelo caught my eye for a few reasons, the first being the fact that trainer Jena Antonucci can win with runners at a price. She’s not well known and I find it interesting that top rider Jose Ortiz lands here. His workouts have been fast since early October and more recently even his five and six furlong works have been snappy. This one comes from the family of Better than Honour who threw Belmont Stakes winners: Jazil and Rags to Riches along with Casino Drive and there looks like there may be some class here on debut.

Race 10: Celestial Glaze - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/1)

Allowance optional claiming runners race 6 furlongs on the main track. Nitrous Channel makes his return to the races after a scintillating debut here in February where he put up a 94 speed figure. He wasn’t able to follow that up with a winning effort and was subsequently shelved since then. He’ll likely go favored and I’m trying to beat him with Celestial Glaze who has run four straight tough races right here sprinting at Gulfstream. His last three races have been won by horses who would go on to win their next start. Low profile connections should keep the odds high and we just need a little pace pressure on the favorite to set up our closing kick.

Aqueduct:

Race 6: Tapit Trice - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 2/1)

Maiden two year olds race a mile on the main track and last time out Tapit Trice made his debut at 2/1 odds and ran on gamely right here at Aqueduct after chasing a Chad Brown runner who raced with the early pace. There are definitely high hopes for this $1.3 million son of Tapit as he moves forward. He’s had a pair of works since his most recent start and faces no killers here. Look for him on next year’s Triple Crown trail!

Race 9: Incantation - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 30/1)

The NY Stallion Series pits several experienced runners against maidens. Incantation is one such maiden, he’s actually a debut runner out of a dam that threw 3 time winner Galaxina for this same barn. Incantation has a pair of bullet workouts in early November at four furlongs on his work tab before he extended to five furlongs with a few decent workouts at that distance as well. The James Bond barn has been chilly this meet so the odds on this runner will be astronomical but the field he meets today is generally devoid of talent and this is a nice opportunity to spring an upset.

As always, wishing our members the very best of luck on Saturday’s races from around the U.S.!
