Friday’s Race Recap from Gulfstream:

Yesterday's race replays.

(All odds US)

Gulfstream Park:

Race 4: 6th@ 7.90/1

Race 5: 3rd@ 8.80/1

Race 6: 3rd@ 9.60/1

In Race 4, Luna Antonia raced 3 wide early and was in contention til midstretch and faded late. In Race 5, Sixty One stalked early but nobody was a match for Concrete Glory and we checked in 3rd. In Race 6, Tempora shot to the lead as we had predicted and Chantal Sutherland gave her a perfect ride with a slow pace up front. She led til midstretch when she was overhauled by the top two runners.

We’ll remain at Gulfstream for the entirety of the weekend with fast and firm conditions expected straight through. Let’s get to the action!

Saturday at Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: Harbor Moon - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

Turf maidens race a mile on the turf to kick off our day. There are a few first time starters here that will attract some attention because of their connections but at a route distance I much prefer runners with experience. Harbor Moon hails from the red hot barn of Michael Trombetta who started this meet winning at a 27% clip (4 for 15 with a second and three third place finishes). Last time out at Laurel he was favored and chased a glacial early pace and closed well at the end but couldn’t make up ground on the winner who crawled early. The first two runners that day both retuned to win their subsequent starts. A win candidate at 10/1 or better.

Race 4: Ari Gold - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 9/5)

The Pulpit, a curiously named race at 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf for a horse who never ran on the turf. Nevertheless it’s a stakes race for two year olds and I LOVE Ari Gold here. He looks to have a significant early speed edge over his rivals and I liked the way he leveled out last time too. The field he faced had some classy-looking runners and he won off nicely. Gate to wire threat who offers value at 9/5.

Race 8: Delight - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)

The Wait a While is a stakes race named for a turf champion from a few years ago trained by Todd Pletcher and while Pletcher does have a runner in here I’m siding with his protégés charge - Delight. Trained by former assistant to Pletcher, Jonathan Thomas, Delight blasted a field of 12 winning the Grade 2 Jessamine at Keeneland by 5 lengths. After that she raced in the Breeders’ Cup where she faded after contesting the pace. She faces no such competition here and should be a handful from just off the early pace.

Best of luck to all our members playing Saturday’s races from Gulfstream Park!
