Garrity's Sunday Stakes picks the Forever Together at Aqueduct, Kennedy Road at Woodbine, Bob Hope at Del Mar

Garrity's first post is 2:44 pm EST.

We have three plays on this tackle football Sunday, in stakes races from New York, Ontario, and California. We expect fast dirt and firm turf in all three; let’s go.

Aqueduct, Race 7, 2:44 pm ET

$135,000 Forever Together Stakes, 1 1/16 miles, Turf, Fillies & Mares 3 & Up

Eight filly and mare turf runners line up for the Forever Together Stakes. We’re going with a straight-down-the-line speed play, in the form of 1-Por Que No, who should get the early lead, and do so quite comfortably, and who might just get brave when allowed to gallop on the front end. We think Por Que No has a good shot at wiring this group, which makes her 20-1 morning line number too good to pass up. We will bet her to win. The bet: Aqueduct, Race 7, $40 to win on 1-Por Que No.

Woodbine, Race 8, 4:58 pm ET

Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes, 6 furlongs, Synthetic, 3 & Up

The Grade 2 Kennedy Road drew a field of eleven. The pick is 11-Arzac, whose results of late have not been great, but we think he is going to run much better here, as his recent races have been on grass, and he has always been better on synthetic surfaces like the Tapeta at Woodbine. We think the switch back to the lint will be just the ticket for Arzac, and we will consequently bet him to win at 3-1. The bet: Woodbine, Race 8, $50 to win on 11-Arzac.

Del Mar, Race 8, 7:00 pm ET

Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes, 7 furlongs, Dirt, 2-Year-Olds

Seven go in the Bob Hope. Bob Baffert trains three of them, including morning line choice 2-Havnameltdown, who is a deserving favorite after earning a big speed figure finishing second to Cave Rock in the Del Mar Futurity in September.

While a win by Havnameltdown would not be a surprise, he’s going to be a minuscule price, probably something on the order of 2/5, and we therefore are enthusiastically taking a pari-mutuel swing against him, and doing so with another animal from the Baffert barn, 7-Newgate, who was last seen doing a speed-and-fade in the Breeders Futurity at Keeneland in September. We like Newgate on the cutback: his last start was at a mile and a sixteenth, and think that returning to sprinting is going to see him deliver a much, much better effort. And with so much of the wagering attention going to the favorite, we just might get a price close to Newgate’s 5/2 morning line number. We will bet him to win. The bet: Del Mar, Race 8, $40 to win on 7-Newgate.

That’s all for today. Until the next time, enjoy the racing, be safe, and, as always, good luck at the windows.
