Delaware Park:

Race 1: 2nd@ 1.80/1

Race 3: SCRATCH

In Race 1, Epic Queen had things her own way up front. Seekingarrangement had to change tactics and press the early pace but could only manage second behind the 2/1 winner.

Our selection in Race 3 scratched.

Since I didn’t include a Breeders Cup memory in Wednesday’s email I’ll double down today. First up we’ve got the 2001 Breeders Cup Classic which was run just six weeks after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center just a few miles from Belmont Park. They went ahead with the Breeders Cup that year with armed marksmen lining the rooftop at Belmont Park. The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, Sakhee was racing on dirt for the first time against a field that included the 2000 Breeders Cup Classic winner Tiznow. Enjoy!

Between 2008 and 2010 the great Zenyatta had taken the U.S. racing world by storm winning all 19 starts in her brilliant racing career. She had defeated males in the 2009 Breeders Cup Classic showing off her devastating turn of foot and would close out her career in the 2010 Breeders Cup Classic. In a bid to run her career record to a perfect 20 for 20 her confrontation with Blame under dark skies at legendary Churchill Downs would go down as one of the all time greatest Breeders Cup Classic races.

Let’s head back to Delaware Park for Thursday’s races. We’re expecting fast conditions beneath sunny skies with seasonably warm temperatures.

Thursday at Delaware Park:

Race 3: Goshen - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)

Maiden claimers sprint six furlongs and this group is a little rough around the edges. Big Ambition is likely to take more money than her 6/1 morning line indicates as she debuts for the red hot barn of Jamie Ness but since August his top speed figure for a debut runner sprinting here at Delaware is an ugly 40. Goshen is a little interesting to me at 7/2 odds breaking from the outside. She’ll be making her second career start here after putting up this field’s top speed figure in her debut albeit over polytrack. Her bloodlines indicate she’ll handle the switch to dirt with no trouble as she has the field’s top Tomlinson figure and she adds Lasix today after that debut effort. Horses generally improve in their second career start and this one has three works under her belt since that debut effort. Trainer Michael Stidham is 3 for 7 (43% wins) with runners moving from synthetic to dirt in their second career start and has hit the board with a wicked 86% of them (6 for 7) with an average speed figure of 58. That type of number would win this race easily. Definite value if you’re able to lock in 7/2 odds with your bookmaker.

Best of luck to all our members playing Thursday’s races from Delaware Park!
