In the Grade 1 Woodward it was 1/9 favorite Life is Good, life and death to keep Law Professor at bay. He did it and won the race but not as easily as some would’ve liked which brings into question whether he’ll go to the Breeder’s Cup Classic or the Dirt Mile. Time will tell. In the Grade 1 Champagne, it was Blazing Sevens giving us another winner. This time at 8/1 odds.

Our day began with Magnificent Mile getting a perfect trip off the early speed and making a mild bid but came up empty and tired to fifth. In Race 8, Elusive Target stalked the pace, and faded on the turn to fifth. In Race 9, Senor Buscador was closer to the pace than usual, took the lead turning for home and turned back a late challenge from Injunction in the final stages for a 6/1 win! In Race 10, Art Collector ran his eyeballs out but was overhauled by Hot Rod Charlie who then had to hold off the Derby winner, Rich Strike. In Race 11, One Time Mo came off the long layoff and was moving best off all too late finishing third in a solid effort.
Let’s close out the week with another rainy day card from Belmont at Aqueduct! I’m staying away from the turf races because who knows what condition these turf courses will be in after the all the rain.
Belmont at Aqueduct:
Race 8: American Rockette - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/1)
The Grade 1 Frizette serves as a major prep for the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies which is only about a month away. We have a good-looking field of 7 runners in here with several blowout maiden winners signed on. I chose American Rockette based on her 4th place finish in the Spinaway at Saratoga. She actually bolted at the break that day and was far behind a moderate early pace. She came 7 wide on the far turn and was gaining on the leaders and eventual winner to the wire. The additional furlong should be no problem for her and there’s a lot of speed signed on here. Bill Mott and Junior Alvarado have combined for a 31% win percentage at the meet so far and this half sister to multiple graded stakes winner, Frank’s Rockette should give a good account of herself here. I’m just hoping for a better break from the starting gate.
