Our Saturday began with Fly Right flying close to perfectly in his debut taking the lead in mid stretch while the heavy favorite sputtered only to get run down late by General Jim. In Race 2, Powerful was right with the early pace and had to dig down to that POWERFUL stride to get the BEST BET win! In Race 3, Aussie Pride was taken well off a slower-than-expected early pace and rallied late but never threatened the top three runners. In Race 7, Meraas made his U.S. debut and shot right to the lead and led til mid-stretch where he was overhauled and continued on for third. In Race 11, the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Keepmeinmind raced far behind and rallied 7 wide for fifth.
A first, a second a third a fourth and a fifth from five selections today. Race 1 was our chance at a big day but we made the lead a little too early and got run down. Onward and upward!
We’re back for some Sunday racing action from Saratoga featuring the Grade 1 Spinaway for two year old fillies. We’re expecting fast and firm conditions once again. It’s a busy holiday weekend here in the States, I don’t want to waste any time, let’s get right to the action!
Sunday at Saratoga:
Race 11: Kaling - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)
Today’s feature race is the Grade 1 Spinaway at 7 furlongs for two-year-old fillies and if you read my comments above for Pure Pauline then you already know that trainer Todd Pletcher has unveiled a few of the most impressive two-year-old fillies at this Saratoga meet. Kaling was one of those runners he unveiled, winning her debut race easily after racing just off the early pace. She won in professional fashion while allowing favored Rarify to set the early pace and she came and picked up the pieces. She’s been working very well since her debut effort and appears the one to beat for capable connections at what looks like they might be better odds than you can usually get on a Pletcher two-year-old.
Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Saratoga!
