Dirt 6 Furlongs|2YO Fillies MSW|Purse: $105K
This race is a bona fide who’s who of east coast trainers with Todd Pletcher, Chad Brown, Steve Asmussen, Linda Rice, Michael Trombetta and Bill Mott, having entries.
Todd Pletcher (20%) – has regally bred 5-Mija (7/2) going postward today. She is by 14% sire Curlin and out of the Bernardini broodmare Rachel’s Valentina, daughter of the big timer Rachel Alexandra. Pletcher, not known for pushing his horses in the morning, watched her eclipse a :12er from the gate August 7, blowing out a :47.6 from the gate.
Chad Brown (17%) - 2-Implicated (6/1) is by Connect, a 19% first time starting sire for 2yo fillies. Chad Brown, a 17% winner with the same parameters, also trained the sire. In very un-Chad like fashion, this filly out of the Tale Of The Cat mare Wysteria, has clocked her last two works in strong fashion.
Steve Asmussen (14%) - saddles 8-Justifying (3/1), who will be bet down before post time given her sire, Justify, is the leading first crop sire with 44% first-time MSW fillies. Asmussen may have tipped the hand of her talent with the bullet work of :47.8 from the gate at the track on July 29.
Linda Rice – (30% w/2nd start 2yo fillies) will leg up Irad Ortiz on 7-Binsky (4/1). She has a race at the course and distance a month ago, finishing an even fourth, Her daddy, Curlin, is a mere 6% with today’s boundaries and her 1:03 work coming out of her last race, gives me reason to pass.
Michael Trombetta (13%) has two entered, 4-Souper Slews Cash (12/1) and 3-Bulsara (10/1). Based on their collective workouts, I will pass.
Bill Mott (11%) also has two entered, 1-Socially Selective (8/1) and 6-Padma (9/2). I am going to pass Socially Selective due to her pedestrian works and my overall choice for this race is Padma, a Godolphin owned and bred filly by 14% winner Tapit, by broodmare sire Unbridled. Her dam Kareena ran a 103 Equibase score in her bow and Tapit ran a 98. If she nears those efforts, this will be over early.

None of the first timers are of interest, so will look to one of the two who have experience in this race. 7-Crypto Mama (3/1) ships in from Monmouth after scoring a 61 Equibase number first time out. She switched leads in mid-stretch, found a new gear, and got up for second, giving a worthy battle. 6-U Glow Girl (5/2) has a race at the course, scoring a 61 Equibase number, as she rode a dead rail in her debut. U Glow Girl is by Girvin, the fifth best first crop sire. As it turns out, the seven Girvin foals that have returned to their second MSW race, have either run near their last Equibase number, or took a hit. That type of result will not be enough for today. My choice is going to be Crypto Mama based on her very game style last out and with improvement expected, she should take this.
