Wednesday’s Race Recap from Saratoga:

Replays for yesterday’s races from Saratoga can be found here:

Saratoga:

Race 5: 1st@ 1.75/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 6: 3rd@ 4.20/1

Race 7: 1st@ 2.60/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 9: 4th@ 1.10/1

We began our week with Mooney Love in Race 5 who seemed like he’d have this field over a barrel if he was able to run back to his European form and after some anxious moments on the far turn where he came under a ride and seemed to be stuck in first gear, he finally kicked in and imposed his will on Jerreau and the rest of a strung out field. In Race 6, Gambling Girl was far back early behind a moderate pace and was motoring late but too late to get to Miracle and would probably benefit from a stretch out in distance. In Race 7, Hatari benefited from a dream ride up the rail by Irad Ortiz to post an easy win. In Race 9, High Opinion was bottled up for most of the run stalking a slow early pace and when it came time to run, jockey Flavien Prat zigged when he should’ve zagged and got stymied in behind horses losing all chance finishing fourth.

Two wins a third and a tough-luck fourth place finish from four selections on the day.

Let’s head back to Saratoga for Thursday’s races. There’s a 50% chance of rain for Thursday as of Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully that will change to 0%. Let’s get to work.

Thursday at Saratoga:

Race 6: Cold Call - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

We start our Thursday with the cleverly named Cold Call who’s sired by Frosted and her dam is Communique. I don’t normally play Julien Leparoux as a rider but one thing he does well with are speed runners on turf (search for his front running score in the Belmont Derby aboard Classic Causeway to see what I mean) and that’s what Cold Call is. These maiden claimers are going a mile on the inner turf which can be speed favoring. Cold Call drew the inside and need to be sent like she has been in her last two starts. Most of the morning line choices in this field are the stalker/closer variety so I’m hoping Cold Call can steal away to an easy early lead. Her dam, Communique, was a multiple graded stakes winner on turf and she had two siblings who placed in graded stakes on the turf. Value at 10/1 or higher.

Best of luck to everyone playing Thursday’s races from Saratoga!
