Garrity's Sunday Stakes Picks the My Frenchman at Monmouth, Quick Call at Saratoga, and the Ellis Park Turf

Garrity's first post is 4:15 pm EDT.

We have plays in three races today, all on turf, in New Jersey, New York, and Kentucky. We expect firm turf in all; we also expect to make money today, so let’s go.

Monmouth Park, Race 9, 4:15 pm ET
$100,000 My Frenchman Stakes, 5 ½ furlongs, Turf, 3-Year-Olds

Seven go in the My Frenchman at Monmouth. The pick is 7-Too Many Twizzlers, who broke his maiden in his last start, and is therefore trying to do something that is not especially easy – beat winners immediately after beating maidens. That is a tall order, but Too Many Twizzlers seems up to the task, as he’s a well-bred colt, his maiden win was quite good, and the race shape should favor him, as the early pace looks swift, which will play right into his closing running style. We will bet him to win at 7/2. The bet: Monmouth Park, Race 9, $40 to win on 7-Too Many Twizzlers.

Saratoga, Race 8, 5:05 pm ET
Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes, 5 ½ furlongs, Turf, 3-Year-Olds

Nine 3-year-old turf sprinters go in the Quick Call at Saratoga. We like the favorite, 8-Big Invasion, who has reeled off four wins in a row, and whose pace and speed figures come pretty close to our embodiment of handicapping perfection for turf sprinters, as he has good natural speed paired with a lethal closing kick. Look for Big Invasion to sit just behind the leaders early, and to blow the race open with a big late move. We will bet him to win at 6/5. The bet: Saratoga, Race 8, $50 to win on 8-Big Invasion.

Ellis Park, Race 8, 5:10 pm ET
$75,000 Ellis Turf Park Stakes, 1 1/16 miles, Turf, Fillies & Mares 3 & Up

A field of eight older fillies and mares lines up for the Ellis Park Turf. We can’t get past favored 4-Market Rumor, who finds a softer spot here after finishing a game fourth in a tough Grade 3 stakes at Churchill Downs on June 5. Market Rumor is an admirably consistent 5-year-old mare who runs virtually the same race every time, with her results determined by the level of competition she faces; today, she looks like she has found a group she can handle. We will bet her to win at 9/5. The bet: Ellis Park, Race 8, $50 to win on 4-Market Rumor.

That’s all for today. Until the next time, enjoy the racing, be safe, and, as always, good luck at the windows.
