Ellis Park Race 5 - $50K Maiden Special
2yo’s going five furlongs
2-Meraj (9/5) – Am not going to lay a short price on a horse whose sires’ eleven progeny have won only twice - once at Parx and a state race at Monmouth. His works have been good, yet as an untested, unraced 2yo at a short price, I’ll pass. 4-Giant Awakening (6/1) is by Mor Spirit, a first crop sire that is 15th on the list. His foals are 1 for 8 and given his lineage, Eskendereya/Giant’s Causeway et al, expect his foals winnings to improve. He is out of the Forest Wildcat mare Hermione’s Magic, and her offspring have won 33% of the time in their debut. Given his work tab, look for him to hustle to the front before fading off. 1-Accident (12/1) went off at 30/1 in his debut, got off to a slow start, and ran 6th in a 6 horse race. He put up a respectable 66 Equibase number and given today’s par of 75, he should hit that with normal improvement. Trainer Tommy Short just 4% with second time starting two year olds, so I am using this Tale Of Verve colt in my exotics. My choice is 3-Eli’s Promise (5/1), a colt by Not This Time, who is an astounding 50% with second time two year old starters. Trainer James DeVito is an excellent 21% winner with second starters and of the four times he used Chris Landeros as his jockey, they won two. I expect Landeros to not let him loose on the lead like Hernandez did last out and press the pace before drawing away.
Happy Hunting!
