Delaware Park:

Race 8: 5th@ 8.10/1

We only had one race on the card at Delaware for Thursday. Another Flirt was taken back off a hot early pace but never mounted a serious rally, checking in fifth. Am looking forward to getting back to Belmont!

We’ve had a slow start to the week with only two selections making it to the starting gate. To be honest, the racing at Delaware hasn’t been great and I’m trying to be more targeted with my selections. We’ve got a BIG weekend of racing ahead at Belmont and of course the Saratoga racing season kicks off next Thursday. I’ll be there for opening weekend and plan on recording my weekly video from Saratoga Race Course. In the meantime we’ve got some Friday racing from Belmont Park. We’re expecting fast and firm conditions. Let’s get started.

Friday at Belmont Park:

Race 9: Martinez - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)

New York Bred Maiden claimers sprint 6 furlongs on turf and we’ve got a full field of 12 but only a handful that look like they can win. Martinez tops that list with the top two speed figures in the field sprinting on turf. There’s a good chance we’ll still get 7/2 odds on this one though with lower profile connections. Trainer Mike Miceli wins 20% of his turf sprints and Joel Rosario sees fit to ride this one again. Last time out he was taken six wide turning for home and came with a strong finish, three lengths ahead of fellow competitor today, Brennan’s War. What struck me most was how visually impressive his closing move was. Decidedly more pronounced than anything this field has put up.

Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Belmont Park!
