Thursday’s Race Recap from Belmont Park:
(All odds US)
Replays for yesterday’s races from Belmont Park can be found here:
Race 1: 3rd@ 18.70/1
Race 3: SCRATCH
Race 5: 5th@ 31.00/1
Our Thursday began with Sell Something in Race 1. My theory was that based on the breeding he’d be better at today’s longer distance and that held true. He was moving best late and was third at 18/1. After a SCRATCH in Race 3, A Lil Bit O’Irish Sass gunned to the lead in her turf debut but got the staggers late, finishing fifth.
We’ll continue our stay at Belmont Park for Friday’s races. I’m handicapping for fast and firm conditions although there’s a chance of storms in the forecast. Let’s get to it!
Friday at Belmont Park:
Race 9: Amble - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 12/1)
Turf sprinters go 7 furlongs on grass and this is a pretty decent looking field of runners. Amble caught my attention at her 12/1 morning line price. She hails from a barn and a jockey both currently winning at 27% for the meet as well as 27% wins in turf sprints and when this rider and trainer join forces they’ve won 30% of their 27 starts together. Amble is turf bred on top and bottom and her debut effort was rained off the grass onto polytrack at Gulfstream this past February. She didn’t run badly and the second and third place finishers from her debut effort both came back to with their next starts. Amble gets Lasix today for the first time and at 12/1 odds we couldn’t be asking for better connections or breeding in a spot like this.
Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Belmont Park!
