Friday’s Race Recap from Belmont Park:

(All odds US)

Replays for yesterday’s races from Belmont Park can be found here:

Belmont Park:

Race 2: 2nd@ 2.30/1

Race 5: 3rd@ 2.70/1

Race 9: 9th@ 64.20/1

If you’re wondering how many more times we’re going to finish second this month, the answer is at least once more as we knew the race favorite Fast and Fearious was a fraud. He went to the lead and was raising the white flag as the field turned for home. The problem was that while that was happening, King Moonracer was buried behind a wall of horses and once he switched out he was wearing down Athenry, but fell a neck short. In Race 5, Highway Queen stalked just off the early pace of Rigby while swishing her tail over and over (not usually a great sign). When they turned for home she was passed by the eventual 25/1 winner, More Mango and settled for 3rd.

Let’s head back to Belmont for Saturday’s races. We’re expecting fast and firm conditions at Belmont Park once again with significantly cooler temperatures than we had today. No video this week or next as I’ll be traveling the next few Fridays.

Saturday at Belmont Park:

Race 3: Jimmy the Boot - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 8/1)

Maiden claimers sprint 6 furlongs on turf and a few in here have similar speed figures so I need to find one whom I feel has the most room for improvement. Jimmy the Boot fits that on rider change alone as he switches from Manny Franco to Joel Rosario. This one also adds blinkers for a trainer who has been hot at the meet - 29% from 83 starters. Trainer Christophe Clement excels in turf sprints (27% wins) and also does well in maiden claiming races (29% wins) so 8/1 is more than fair value here.

Race 6: Masen - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 6/5)

The Grade 3 Poker looks like a mismatch on paper as Masen, with two consecutive triple digit speed figures faces four other runners, none of whom have that distinction in a combined 62 starts. Add to that the fact that trainer Chad Brown has won pretty much every turf stakes race in the New York area and he’s 32% with jockey Flavien Prat. If you can lock in 6/5 odds with your bookmakers, DO IT!

Race 9: Forty Two Ace - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 15/1)

Turf allowance runners go 7 furlongs in this race restricted to New York breds. No killers in here so I’m taking a bit of a chance with Forty Two Ace, who has only raced on dirt in his career but who’s Tomlinson figure says he should handle turf with no issue. This runner was claimed from a maiden claiming race back in January and they must’ve found one they like because they haven’t entered him back in the claiming ranks since. In fact he won an open company allowance race and then ran second in another allowance race. He failed at odds on last out but has been given some time off and has a few strong workouts. Stronger than he’s ever worked in his career. Jockey, Luis Saez is a big time upgrade from the last few riders. Upset special.

Best of luck to everyone playing Saturday’s races from around the US!
