Saturday’s Race Recap from Belmont Park:

(All odds US)

Race replays for yesterday’s races from Belmont Park can be found here:

Belmont Park:

Race 1: 7th@ 15.80/1

Race 5: 2nd@ 4.30/1

Race 7: 10th@ 17.50/1

Race 10: 10th@ 16.20/1

In Race 1 on Saturday, Cupere chased along the inside under coaxing from the five-sixteenths, continued just off the inside into upper stretch and then weakened. In Race 5, Shinfull went to the lead and was ridden through moderate fractions by Irad Ortiz. She was asked for run in the stretch and responded gamely but was no match for Lisa’s Vision while running a clear second. In Race 7, Mail Order stalked a fast early pace off the long layoff and took the lead turning for home but when the real running began she had nothing left for the drive. In Race 10, Union Dolly raced wide and near the pace and was taken wide into the stretch before flattening out and fading.

We’re going to close out the week with another BEAUTIFUL sunny day at Belmont Park. We’re expecting a fast main track and a firm turf course. Heeeere we go!

Sunday at Belmont Park:

Race 7: Tami’s Orchid - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 30/1)

Bottom level claimers sprint 6 furlongs here and here’s the logic I used to handicap this race. Seems so simple. I took the top speed figure earned the last time each runner raced over a fast main track this year. In this case, Tami’s Orchid’s 43 actually puts here right with the best of these. She will most certainly be overlooked in this spot but trainer Bruce Brown wins with 24% of his turf to dirt runners and although she’s made most of her career starts on turf, she broke her maiden over the main track. I’ll be honest, I won’t be surprised if she finishes up the track but 30/1 odds or better on a horse whose speed figures align with the best of these, it’s worth taking a shot.

Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Belmont!
