Delaware Park:

Race 3: SCRATCH

Race 5: 3rd@ 5.30/1

Race 7: 1st@ 7.10/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

We somewhat expected the scratch in Race 3. In Race 5 we sided with longshot Gambling Man, who owned the field’s top speed figure on turf but we felt might get overlooked on the betting board (30/1 morning line odds) . He did, at least early on as he was 18/1 with three minutes to post but by the time the gates opened his odds dropped drastically to nearly favored at 5/1!! He sat a reserved 4th behind the speed most of the way tugging while under a firm hold. In the stretch he leveled out but couldn’t catch the top two finishers, finishing third at an underlaid 5/1 in the States but probably an overlaid 30/1 with bookmakers. In Race 7, Unconquered Spirit went to the lead and never looked back. He got away with murder on the front end and he came in a touch late which slightly hampered the second place runner but he was clearly best today.

We start off the month of June in the black and we look to capitalize on the Day 1 momentum.

Let’s move our tack over to Belmont Park for Thursday’s races. As I type this, it’s absolutely pouring in the New York area. Post time Thursday is 3:05pm EDT and not the usual 1:05pm EDT so maybe the track and turf will have extra time to dry out but I’m handicapping as if all races will be run over the main track. The potential of having off the turf races might give us a chance to get the jump on the bookmakers who’ll undoubtedly have their morning lines set up for turf racing. Let’s get to it.

Thursday at Belmont Park:

Race 5: Unlock - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 8/1)

New York bred maiden claimers sprint six furlongs and this is a pretty weak group overall. That feeling about the runners with more recent form is why I want to give Unlock a second chance. He debuted in the slop at Saratoga last August and finished tenth of eleven after being forced out and pinched at the break. She’s been given ample time off and, buried amidst a bevy of recent workouts is a snappy 47.4 workout from April 21. Trainer Tom Albertrani takes his time bringing his horses along and he gives 19% rider in Dylan Davis a leg up today.

Best of luck to everyone playing Thursday’s races from Belmont Park!
