Churchill Downs Race 4 - $120K Maiden Special

3yo’s↑ going 8.5 furlongs

We have eight entered in this tilt and Todd Pletcher sends out 3-Gate Runner (3/1) a 2020, $560K Keeneland September Yearling sale colt. He showed huge improvement in his second effort which was his last race and has two freshenings since. Steve Asmussen has 2-Chileno (7/2), who has topped the Equibase speed figures in his last two. A son of Gun Runner, this colt has raced three times at Churchill and in each, he chased near the lead until the end before tiring. So, he likes the track, and he is my choice. I am including 4-Magnificus (6/1) in my exotics. A Practical Joke progeny, he just missed by ½ length last time at a mile, and the stretch out is welcomed. He notched a Group 1 breeze fig with a long stride.

Churchill Downs Race 8 – The Grade 3, $200K Winning Colors Stakes

Fillies and mares, 4yo’s↑ going six furlongs

This is a woman among girls with 3-Sconsin (6/5) taking on four others who have never won a graded stakes race. Playing against her, is a recipe for failure. She is 7/4-2-0 for $635K at Churchill and won this stakes last year. An Include, mare, she has been on the bench after besting big time horse Bell’s The One in the Open Mind Stakes at this course and distance last September. She has put in very nice works and trainer Greg Foley is strong 25% bringing horse back after this long.
