Our Sunday began with Gaglino lagging far behind and closing late rallying 7 wide in the stretch to be fourth. In Race 3, Kong Loves a Fight lagged far behind and never mounted a serious rally. The same held true for Troubleshooter in Race 4 who’s always been that kind of horse. He either runs huge or his heart isn’t in it and today was the latter unfortunately as he lagged behind early and came with only a mild rally late. In Race 5 we got blitzed by a first time starter named Boston Tea Party who obliterated a strong field at first asking. Emboite and the rest couldn’t do much about it. Stakes are most certainly in this one’s future. We wrapped up with Race 7 and Supreme Aura ran similarly to many today closing from far back to finish a distant fourth.
We handicapped the races today looking for closers but speed reigned supreme and closers finished far back all day long.
We’ve got some BONUS Monday Memorial Day racing action from Belmont. Beautiful weather today and more of that is expected tomorrow so I’ve handicapped for fast and firm conditions. Let’s get this party started.
Monday at Belmont Park:
Race 10: Ard Macha - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 12/1)
We’re looking to close out our month of May with a bang and a 7 furlong maiden race on turf is just the way to do it. There are no real standouts here and our 7/2 morning line choice just looks okay. Ard Macha is a first time starter from the Jorge Abreu barn which is not having its strongest Belmont meet but we know this barn can heat up quickly and can pop at a price. This runner is by Candy Ride who’s a capable sire of turf runners and he has two siblings who are each two time turf sprint winners. Abreu wins 19% of his turf sprints, despite his low win percentage this meet. That’ll only add to his price. His Tomlinson figure is high and should offer value here with a big name rider in John Velazquez named to ride. Don’t sell too short!
Best of luck to everyone playing Monday’s races from Belmont Park!
