Our Saturday began with a heck of a battle in the Vagrancy Handicap as Frank’s Rockette wasn’t letting heavily favored Bella Sofia by without a fight. Unfortunately we came out on the losing end in Race 5 when Chateau did what he always does after gunning to the early lead. He went as fast as he could for as far as he could and that distance was about 1/16th of a mile too short as Drafted powered past and we had to settle for second. In Race 6, Lay the Groundwork stalked a slow early pace and battled bravely on the inside to be second behind a loose on the lead winner. In the Peter Pan, Joel Rosario inexplicably rated controlling speed runner, Set Sail, and allowed We The People to walk alone on the lead over a sealed, speed favoring track. I don’t understand what he was doing there but it didn’t work out because he finished 6th. In Race 10, Rougir got us our second win of the day with an emphatic win reminiscent of Speak of the Devil’s tour de force last weekend. She was rated in last off a dawdling early pace and drove by to win for fun. In Race 11, Captainsdaughter was taken back to last and never mounted a serious threat.

Let’s head back to Belmont Park to close out our week. Despite a little rain that’s expected in the overnight hours we’re expecting fast and firm conditions by race time on Sunday. Let’s get to work.

Sunday at Belmont Park:

Race 9: Loaded and Ready - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 15/1)

Maiden claimers sprint 6 furlongs and there are a few that have raced before that an argument can be made for but I’m taking a swing with a first time starter out of a dam who won her second career start (on turf) and who has thrown four other runners who have won or placed on debut (three wins and a close second). Those siblings also won on turf. Barn is perfectly capable of popping with a winner at a price.

Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Belmont Park!
