Mike Dennis picks Friday's 9th at Belmont, a turf sprint for maiden NY breds, and he's going for the Gold

9th race post time is 5:12 pm EDT.

Thursday Review: My note yesterday was the eventual winner, #7, posted a Beyer higher than the race Par, which showed. Jose Oritz sat off the lead and when it came time to have finish, Out of Sight had what was needed to get up and pay 5.70.

My approach of spreading against did not work, the chalk won, and we move on with life.

Friday May 13 Selection

Belmont Park Race 9 - State Bred – Maiden Claiming 40k – 3 YO ^ – 1 1/16th Miles – Widener Turf

It feels normal to have the card end with a MDC 40k, I think in years past this is the usual last race most days at Belmont, but I could be wrong on that.

A full field of 12 is lined up to go six furlongs on the widener turf. Yesterday, I did not buy into the chalk and spread. Today is opposite, I have a single, which I am willing to take a shot with.

This field sucks, to be honest it does. I want to stay away from the outside, but then dive back inside to find some hope. Only to go back outside, and take a shot with 11-Gold Bullion at 4/1.

1. MSW to MCL

2. Showed some run prior to the hard fade.

3. Trying the turf out, sometimes when looking at Sire / Dam information do not always let the percentages or W’s get you up or down. Look at the BEYER # that is average and best to give an idea of possible potential.

The outside post is not ideal, but I really do not feel threatened by other horses here. The first time starter could show up for trainer Tom Morley possibly, if so, it is what it is. I should be able to keep the 4/1 on my pick, with people being scared off by outside post.

Best of luck today if you are playing the ponies.
