Thursday’s Race Recap from Aqueduct:
(All odds US)
Replays for yesterday’s races from Aqueduct can be found here:
Aqueduct:
Race 1: 6th@ 3.70/1
Race 8: 7th@ 8.40/1
Prior to Race 1 they sealed the track because of the rainy weather. That also sealed the fate for off the pace runners early on as Uncle Water Flow was never able to mount a serious rally and the first few races were won by horses on or near the early lead. In Race 8, Angeli Blu broke well but then dropped back to last and closed mildly in the stretch looking very much like a horse who needed the race.
Let’s beat a hasty retreat from rainy Aqueduct and welcome in racing from beautiful and historic Keeneland for OPENING DAY this year. We’ve got a few graded stakes races on their Friday card. There’s a 50/50 chance of rain so I’ll stay away from the turf races except for the stakes. Let’s get to it.
Friday at Keeneland:
Race 7: Ignitis - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 15/1)
This year’s edition of the Lafayette Stakes came up tough and I’ve been a fan of Ignitis for a little while now. He’ll fly under the radar in this field but last time out he chased a loose, classy leader in Cogburn and came up with this field’s fastest closing figure of 11.67 seconds for his final 1/8th of a mile. I’ve always thought this one was a sprinter but they took their shot at the Triple Crown trail and now he can finally be properly placed. They added blinkers two races back and he’s put up consecutive best race speed figures. Surprise package might just get the last laugh down the stretch.
Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Keeneland!
