Fair Grounds Race 5 - $50K Maiden Claiming

3yo fillies going 8.5 furlongs

I will be tying up four horses in exotics this race: 8-Dial Ten For G, 2-Classy Miss (7/2), 1-A’bouzy (8/1) and 7-Bel Aria (8/1). First time starter A’bouzy has hot jockey James Graham aboard and has provided a decent enough work tab to hit the board. Dial Ten For G is the lone speed in this race and should hang on long enough to make a super play. Maclean’s Music progeny Bel Aria, a second time starter was low odds on debut and sucked in debut. She has turned in two recent 1:01 works and will show marked improvement with the added distance. Classy Miss, gets her second taste on turf for 20% off the claim trainer Paul McGee. Gabriel Saez, a particularly good jockey with rating horses, is in the irons for the first time. The pick.

Fair Grounds Race 7 - $50K Optional Claimer

3yo’s N1x going 5.5 furlongs on turf

2-High Front (5/2) categorically crushed his debut race at Gulfstream by six and a half lengths in a five furlong turf in :56.16, a time that could set the Fair Grounds five furlong turf record by 1.4 seconds, or eight lengths. He put up a 95 Equibase that day. Since his last, he has put out six works that have been lackluster and added today’s level competition, returning to the same Equibase number, or greater, is a rarity for second starters facing winning horses. Pass. 7-Ferociously (4/1) $410K colt trained by Asmussen, a subpar 7% on turf, saddles this Violence colt for his first turf where he is only 10% in this situation. This speed horse with challenge High Front and provide plenty of push to set up the closer. 5-Burninhunkoflove (8/1) an overlay in this spot, is by 15th rated turf sire Munnings and by broodmare sire Denman, a black type winner in Australia who went 12/9-0-1, gets a second crack at winning horses today. Look for him to be flying late. I believe new jockey Mitch Murrill to take a different tact and rate 4-Roman Poet (4/1) who looked like a new horse with his first turf try getting the lead and tiring late to get the place. He scored a 94 Equibase number. Roman Poet put in :12er work of :48 a week ago and he is the choice.

Happy Hunting!
