Our day began in Race 2 with heavily favored Vicious Velma sent to the front but a clever, rail-skimming ride by Rene Diaz on Veils and Vows upended our chances to start the day with a victory and we had to settle for second. In Race 3, Dial It Up a Notch was taken back far off the early pace and moved late to gain 5th. Speaking of 5th, in the 5th race of the day we had Miss Underrated to close from far back to eat up the early leaders and she did just that, catching 6 of the 7 runners she was facing but she couldn’t get by 4/5 favorite Sumitup so we once again settled for a long-odds second place finish. In Race 9, Mr. Elvin stalked the pace and shifted outside in the stretch but was unable to gain ground on the top two finishing third.

Across the board & EW bettors are erecting a statue in my honor with yet another longshot running second as “knocking on the door March” shifts to “pounding on the door” March as we ease into the second half of the month.

We’ll move to Aqueduct for Friday’s races. We had light rain all day on Thursday in the NY area so while it was only light rain, we may begin our Friday with a less than fast main track. Let’s get to it!

Friday Aqueduct:

Race 9: Mazel Eighteen - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

Allowance runners sprint 6 furlongs here. If speed is good then Mazel Eighteen should be the speed of the speed here with a 28% winning trainer running second time off a claim. It’s nice to see them not dropping her back in for sale after a third place finish in a similar spot last time out. This runner has run 4 times at both this track and distance and has never finished off the board at either one. Value at 10/1 odds or higher with three recent works under her belt.

Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Aqueduct!
