Good morning racing fans. We are back for another week of EXCITING thoroughbred action from around the United States. We’ll start our week with Wednesday’s races from Gulfstream Park where else expect sunny skies and mild temperatures with a fast main track and a firm turf course. Let’s get started with some March MADNESS!!!
Wednesday pick for Gulfstream Park:
Race 6: Dalton - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 12/1)
Allowance turf sprint runners go 5 furlongs and there are a few rules I don’t typically break as a handicapper and a bettor: 1. Maiden races aside, I don’t play horses that don’t like to win. Shekky Shebaz, our 3/1 morning line favorite and Cucina, our 7/2 second choice fit that bill without a turf win in two years. I also don’t generally play Mark Casse trained horses - just a personal preference that has saved me money over the years. Using those two rules eliminates half the field of this race for me. Dalton is a bit interesting in here to me at a price. Newly gelded, Dalton comes off a November layoff for a trainer who wins with 20% of his turf sprinters overall and who’s 19% on the year. Not one to put up overly flashy workouts, Dalton put up back to back fast workouts with a 47.2 breezing work on February 18th that was the second fastest of those working that morning followed by a BLITZ of a turf workout where he went 46.4. Sire Kantharos, who wins with 15% of his turf sprinters, is my favorite for turf sprinters and this one will be a price. Value at 12/1.
Best of luck to everyone playing Wednesday’s races from Gulfstream Park!!
