Maiden America 1.17.2022

Fair Grounds Race 3 - $46K Restricted Maiden Special

3yo’s That Have Not Started For $50K Or Less In Their Last Three Starts

5.5 Furlongs on turf

6-Bet He’s Ready (2/1), half-brother to Travers and Belmont winner Catholic Boy, is by More Than Ready, a 20% first turf winner. Asmussen only 10% with first turf horses, and his :38.5 only breeze since his last race on Dec. 12, are red herrings. So, I’ll use this guy underneath unless it’s off the turf. I am going with 2-Lunar Rocket (9/2) who got an excellent lesson last time splitting horses late to make up three lengths to get up for a show check. The change of riders to leading jockey Colby Hernandez a shot in the arm.

Fair Grounds Race 7 - $46K Restricted Maiden Special

3yo’s That Have Not Started For $50K Or Less In Their Last Three Starts

5.5 Furlongs on turf

With the experienced runners in this field, there are too many negative factors to bet any of them. Therefore, I am going with first time starter 7-Lord Zed (7/2). A first time starter by Lord Nelson, 18th on first crop sire win list, and More Than Ready, 18th on the list of Broodmare sires with $13.1M, his works have been very good, with a 1:00 from the gate, a couple of :48’s and Brad Cox a 16% trainer with first starters.

Happy Hunting!
