We are back with more racing action. With rain in the forecast at Gulfstream, I’m sliding over to Tampa Bay Downs for the day. I like a few longshots and I think we can make some money.

Let’s get to work.

Tampa Bay Downs:

Race 3: Tutankhamunatcha - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 30/1)

First off - how cool is that name? King Tut references aside, the name actually grabbed me and at first glance, the running lines on this one are a little ugly but that’s the case for a lot of these. This is a maiden claiming race at Tampa, not Royal Ascot. Tutankhamunatcha races for trainer Leon McKanas with whom we’ve caught BOMBS with before on the turf. McKanas has a very strong stat with maiden claimers going dirt to turf, stretching from sprints to routes in maiden claiming races. He is 3 for 8 for a 38% win percentage and an average payoff of $26.40. This runner has raced twice on turf. In his debut, he was shut off at the start and trailed so we can put a line through that race. His other turf start produced a speed figure of 55 at odds of 67/1 which puts him with the best in here. In viewing his workouts since his career began, every time they’ve worked this runner prior to a race, he’s come through with a strong effort. There have been times where they’ve rushed him - for example, his three most recent starts all took place within three weeks of one another without workouts in between and he ran terribly. He’s back on his preferred surface with a two month break and two workouts under his belt and he gets a positive rider switch from a 3% rider to a 15% rider. He has the look of a live longshot from a barn that knows how to get a bomb home on turf.

Best of luck to everyone playing Wednesday’s races from Tampa Bay Downs and Gulfstream Park!
