Friday 12.31 Aqueduct Picks, Oaklawn Picks: God's Tipster handicaps three races to close out the year
Thursday’s Race Recap from Aqueduct:
(All odds US)
Replays for yesterday’s races from Aqueduct can be found here:
Race 1: SCRATCH
Race 2: 3rd@ 22.50/1
Race 4: 4th@ 7.20/1
Race 8: 2nd@ 12.30/1
We kicked off our Thursday with our day’s BEST BET scratching from Race 1. In Race 2, our first time starter - Geometrique lagged well behind and rolled on for third, passing everyone after the wire. This one will improve with the start under her belt and with added distance. In Race 4, What’s My Category stalked the pace from the outside and closed along for third without threatening the winner. In Race 8, Alite ran well at his 12/1 odds out-finishing the heavy favorites and turning into the stretch I thought he might pull it off but he was not able to run down Esor and had to settle for second.
A BEST BET scratch, a second, a third and a fourth at long odds today as we try to close out 2021 with a bang!
Let’s head back to Aqueduct for two races on Friday’s race card. We’re expecting dry, overcast conditions at Aqueduct on Friday with a fast main track. I’m also selecting one race from Oaklawn Park where we expect similarly dry conditions.
Let’s get to work.
Friday picks for Aqueduct:
Race 3: Good Skate - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 3/1)
Maiden claimers sprint 6 furlongs and our 9/5 morning line favorite ships in off the claim after a decent effort first time out. The field’s top speed figure was put up last time out by Good Skate at this surface and distance and that experience over the track is something the morning line favorite doesn’t have. Good Skate battled on gamely after chasing a hot pace and was well clear of the third place finisher that day. Looks like his actual odds should be more like 9/5 so if you can lock in 3/1, do it!
Race 8: Regal Empire - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 15/1)
New York Bred two year olds go a mile here and in just another day all of these runners will be listed as three-year-olds but for now, at this mile distance, many will have trouble but after viewing replays, Regal Empire shouldn’t have any trouble at all. This runner switched from Mike Maker to the low profile barn of Marcus Thompson and in his dirt debut he stalked early and closed with a flourish to just miss second place. That final split of 25.87 seconds was just as fast as older runners closed out their race a little later in the race card on Dec. 16 and they run speed figures in the 80’s. Anything like that would take this race. From off the pace and into the winner’s circle at long odds.

Friday pick for Oaklawn Park
Race 5: Sun Path - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)
Allowance race for fillies and mares and a few of these look close based on speed figures but Sun Path really impressed me last time out. This full sister to Bonny South began her career sprinting and when she graduated to longer distances she was thrown right into stakes company after a blowout 13 length win. Laid off since March, they brought her back in late November where she faced a tough field sprinting. She ran on well to be third in what looked like the perfect tightener for a race like this. Top connections- currently winning at a whopping 39% at the meet. This runner finished third behind repeat winner Center Aisle last out. That one returned to defeat multiple graded stakes winner - Frank’s Rockette last out. Formidable.
Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Aqueduct and Oaklawn!
