Wednesday 11.24 Churchill Downs Picks: God's Tipster picks the 2nd, 3rd and 5th

God's Tipster's first post is at 1:30 pm EST.

After an amazing week and an atrocious weekend, we look to rebound with Wednesday’s race card from Churchill Downs. We expect cloudy skies, chilly temperatures, a fast main track and a firm turf course. Enough talk. Let’s get to the action.

Wednesday picks for Churchill Downs:

Race 2: Senorita Karlita - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/1)

Two-year-old maiden claimers go a mile and a sixteenth and I’ll be honest. This field is really really lacking in quality. At times like these it’s worth taking a shot and that’s what we’re doing with Senorita Karlita whose debut race in September left something to be desired. Blinkers come on for her second career start and that's a move trainer John Ortiz (who’s winning at 25% at the meet thus far) has capitalized with 23% of the time. He also excels with 2yos (23% win), maidens making their second career start (21% win) and for the whopper - horses dropping from maiden special races into maiden claimers: (38% wins). Most recently, Ortiz had a runner named Barber Road - who we won with a few weeks ago on this course. That one broke his maiden after getting blinkers making his second career start off a similarly dismal debut and a similar subsequent layoff. Reylu Gutierrez rode that runner as well. Things to like but will need to prove it on the track.

Race 3: My Bets - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 9/2)

Starter allowance runners go a mile here and this is a pretty solid group of fillies and mares. Microcap is a deserving favorite and will take some beating today but in this six horse field, a majority of the runners have early speed. If a speed duel develops that would benefit My Bets who came within 3/4 of a length from winning her third race in a row and 4th of her last 5. My Bets has been ultra consistent running around the Midwest and has gotten all four of her wins at this distance. The class is the only question mark here but the horse who beat her last time - Flat Awesome Jenny - is riding a win streak of her own and won her subsequent start, improving her speed figure in the process. I think there’s more here and My Bets is a major contender from off the pace.

Race 5: Eastside Cool - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 2/1)

Claimers race a mile to close out our day. When you’ve got the class of the race it’s always a dangerous thing. And when that class runner also happens to be the lone speed, then it’s going to be a long day for the other runners and that’s exactly how Race 5 appears to be shaping up. Eastside Cool was eased last out in the mud facing much tougher but appears to have a few advantages over most of these.

Best of luck to everyone playing Wednesday’s races from Churchill Downs.
