Saturday’s Race Recap from Belmont and Keeneland:

(All odds US)

Replays for yesterday’s races from Belmont Park can be found here:

Belmont Park:

Race 1: 4th@ 2.85/1

Race 6: 5th@ 9.50/1

In Race 1 at Belmont, Motion To Strike broke well and led til the top of the stretch before fading to fourth. In Race 6, jockey Manny Franco gave Plum Ali a perfect ride just behind the early pacesetter but when they entered the stretch he wasn’t able to find a seam to run and had to settle for a frustrating fifth while being fully loaded.

Replays for yesterday’s races from Keeneland can be found here:

Keeneland:

Race 1: 1st@ 1.30/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 6: 5th@ 10.20/1

Race 8: 9th@ 2.10/1

Race 9: 2nd@ 2.90/1

Race 10: 8th@ 10.80/1

We led off the Keeneland card with a powerful win by Devil’s Tower in Race 1 who went to the lead, turned away a challenger at the top of the stretch and never looked back, just as we had hoped. Race 6 was taken off the turf due to yesterday’s rain which upended our chances as we were looking forward to seeing Tonkawa Springs get a chance on the grass as he’s bred far better for it than dirt. In the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Empress Josephine showed that she may have been feeling some ill effects from racing only a week ago fading to last in the field after stalking the early pace. In Race 9, the favorite Ducale was allowed to set pedestrian fractions while our selection- Winter Pool was mid pack. When the real running started, Ducale started getting tired and Winter Pool was surging but Ducale held on by a fast diminishing half length. Any pace pressure for Ducale and Winter Pool would’ve had him. In the final race of the day, Recoded stalked a fast pace and had no punch when it counted checking in 8th.

Let’s take a look at Sunday’s race card from Belmont Park where we expect sunny skies and mild temperatures along with fast and firm conditions:

Sunday picks for Belmont Park:

Race 6: Missionatthespa - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

NY bred turf runners go a mile and a sixteenth here and we love finding pace advantages and I think we may have found one here with Missionatthespa. This runner looks to be the controlling speed and breaks from the inside post which is an angle we always like. Low profile connections ensure a high price for this runner who’s 1 for 1 at today’s distance. This one exits a race from Parx where the winner won his next race back. Gate to wire threat at long odds!

Race 8: Gogo Shoes - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 12/1)

Tricky looking rendition of the Floral Park Stakes at 6 furlongs in the grass. We’ve got a few in here that are dyed-in-the-wool speed types and you’ve got closers who’ll rally from far back and then you’ve got a runner like Gogo Shoes who can beat you from on or off the pace. While her most recent start at Kentucky Downs wasn’t great, that can be a tricky track to run well at. Two races back, her race at Colonial Downs was excellent and a bit underrated as she defeated a few next-out winners. She switches back to jockey Kendrick Carmouche, who won with her on this circuit already. At 12/1 she offers value here.

Race 9: Thegoddessofsnakes - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 30/1)

Turf runners go 7 furlongs in this maiden race and our selection is a rank outsider from a barn that’s not taking much attention but that’s having a decent enough meet. Thegoddessofsnakes steps back up from maiden claimers to maiden special company which is a good sign as the barn doesn’t want to risk losing her to a claim. She also get a major rider upgrade to Kendrick Carmouche, who knows how to ride a speed horse. This runner may just sneak away early here as there’s not a ton of speed signed on here and if she does, this rider knows how to keep them going. Value at 30/1.

Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from beautiful Belmont Park !
