We began our day with our BEST BET - Sevier in Race 3 running up the score winning in a romp. Anyone can give out 2/5 winners but if you were able to exploit the bad morning line odds and get 4/5 that’s the result I’m looking for! Sevier wasn’t losing today. In Race 6 I had hoped for better from Trolley Ride but when the race got competitive she backed out. After a scratch in Race 9, we ran 2nd at odds of 19.50 with Pickin Time to Jackie’s Warrior who was brilliant. In the Cotillon, Always Carina had the run of the race setting a slow pace and had no excuse when she was inhaled in the stretch and checked in 5th. In the Pennsylvania Derby, Fulsome ran his race but could do no better than 4th. Hot Rod Charlie brought his “A-Game” and will now be headed to the Breeder’s Cup Classic.

Belmont’s races look a little tricky on Sunday so we’ll head back to Churchill Downs. Fast and firm conditions expected beneath sunny skies.

Sunday Pick for Churchill Downs:

Race 2: Carmichael - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 3/1)

Maiden claimers race a mile and a sixteenth here. Many of these are primarily turf runners - in fact 6 of 7 made their last two starts over the lawn but with Churchill Downs’ turf course being renovated we’re left with dirt racing. Carmichael drops to the lowest level of his career and although his last 6 starts have been on grass, his lifetime best speed figure was actually attained on dirt. Of the rest of the field, only Captain Fantastic has a dirt speed figure that appears it can compete with Carmichael but the Captain is showing a declining trend in speed figures while our selections has improved, runs second off a layoff and has already finished second over this course.

Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Churchill Downs!
