Thursday’s Race Recap from Churchill Downs:

(All odds US)

Replays for Churchill Downs races can be found here:

Race 2: 3rd@ 6.40/1

Race 6: 7th@ 13.50/1

Race 7: 5th@ 3.30/1

Our day started with Schochoh stalking the pace in Race 2 and we had hoped he might be able to gain ground in the stretch on the dueling leaders but alas he had no punch when it really counted and checked in third. In Race 6, Condemn got a perfect stalking trip, saving ground til the stretch where he made his move and flattened out finishing 7th. In Race 7, Jungle Juice gunned to the lead and set a fast pace before tiring in the lane.

With more rain in the forecast at Belmont Park for Friday we’ll take another crack at Churchill Downs where we expect sunny skies along with fast track conditions. Let’s get to the action.

Friday pick for Churchill Downs:

Race 6: Great North - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds 10/1)

Maiden claimers run 6 furlongs here and based on speed figures this is a very weak field so it’s worth taking a bit of a shot on a trainer who excels with horses moving turf to dirt at Churchill Downs while dropping from Maiden Special Weight to Maiden Claiming races. Trainer Joe Sharp wins at a 21% rate with an average payoff of $22.60! That tells us that he uses those turf debuts as prep races as more than one of his runners showed miraculous improvement from their first start to their second start. This trainer actually had a runner named Rich Strike improve his speed figure by a full 40 points in his second career start going turf to dirt and maiden special to maiden claimers only a few days ago - Sept. 17, 2021 winning by 17 lengths at odds of 10/1. Will lightning strike twice?

Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Churchill Downs!
