Belmont Park:

Race 7: 3rd@ 6.90/1

Race 8: 7th@ 7.70/1

Race 11: 11th@ 6.10/1

Not much luck at Belmont today. We started our day with Space Launch running his race but he just wasn’t good enough winding up third best in Race 7. In Race 8, Esotica was meant to get the lead but didn’t and that was all she wrote for that one, chugging home 7th. In Race 11, Air Show put up a non-effort in a terrible race first off the claim for a new owner/trainer. I’d want a refund if I had claimed that one.

Churchill Downs:

Race 3: 5th@ 6.10/1

Race 8: 1st@ 1.80/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 9: 1st@ 4.90/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Ain’t No Elmers started our Churchill Downs selections with a competitive run but in such a strong field she could do no better than 5th after a faster pace than expected materialized. In Race 8, Hidden Connection stalked and pounced to win the Pocahontas stakes. Major General gave another game performance winning the Iroquois to give us two wins on the day.

We’ll look ahead to close the week at Belmont Park with sunny skies and beautiful weather expected along with fast and firm conditions.

Sunday picks for Belmont Park:

Race 2: Mr. Briggs - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 2/1)

We kick things off with a starter allowance race and Mr. Briggs races first time off the claim for trainer Linda Rice. I like the fact that she keeps this runner out from claiming races so she doesn’t risk losing him to a claim. That shows confidence. If he runs the same race he ran last out he’ll be tough here.

Race 9: Jordan’s Leo - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 12/1)

The Pebbles Stakes at a mile on turf and I see a slow pace setting up here which makes Jordan’s Leo an interesting proposition at long odds. Trained by Todd Pletcher, who’s winning at 29% to start the Belmont meet, this runner surprised in her first start in turf winning a tough race in a fast time at Saratoga from just off the pace. If her rider puts her on or near the lead again she could prove difficult to run down.

Race 10: Grey Giant - 1 pt win (Us Morning Line Odds: 20/1)

Maiden claimers race on turf here and we’ve got a longshot who’s racing at Belmont for the first time for low profile connections so the price will be right. In a race without much pace though I can see a scenario where this runner is put on the lead and gets brave. Colonial Downs is a better racetrack than people give it credit for and at long odds is worth a play.

Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Belmont Park!!!
