Gulfstream Park Sunday: God's Tipster picks the 3rd, 8th and 9th races from sunny Florida

We continue our quest to kill some time as we wait for Belmont and Churchill Downs to open on Thursday, September 16. In Race 4 we had tabbed Bronx as our day’s best bet but he ran disappointingly, pressing the early pace set by the eventual winner, before fading in the drive to finish 5th. With maiden claimers you never know. In Race 6, Septemberten fared a little better although he didn’t have the cleanest trip. On the turn he looked full of run but once he had to wait he lost some momentum and checked in third.

We’ll close out the week at Gulfstream Park where we expect fast and firm conditions beneath sunny skies with warm temperatures. Here we go!

Sunday picks for Gulfstream Park:

Race 3: La Urbana - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)

Maiden turf sprinters line up and La Urbana began his career racing in New York on the dirt in the winter. He returned racing in south Florida on turf and fought on bravely off an 8 month layoff losing by 1/2 length in his first start back. Has the top turf speed figure by a long way here and may get a little overlooked due to lower profile connections although his trainer is winning at 24% this meet.

Race 8: Battle Cry - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)

A hot pace looks likely in this 5 1/2 furlongs dirt sprint and Battle Cry looks like one that will benefit the most from that. Coming off a May layoff for a low percentage barn, Battle Cry drops to a level he’s raced at and won at before. He’s got a win over the surface and as long as he’s not rusty off the bench it looks like the pace sets up for him.

Race 9: Josefa - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 15/1)

Turf claimers run here and our selection, Josefa owns three career wins. All have come at Gulfstream Park and all have come at this distance. She comes into this race off a May layoff and many times when early speed runners enter off a layoff they show even sharper early speed. That could prove problematic for her competition as there’s not much other early speed here and she’s won at a big price here before.
