Welcome welcome welcome. The old adage - “time flies” certainly applies to this, the final week of the Saratoga meet. The meet ends on Monday, September 6 which is Labor Day here in the States so members will get a bonus race card this coming Monday. In the meantime we’ve got a Wednesday race card with cloudy skies to look forward to. Let’s get crackin’.
Wednesday picks for Saratoga:
Race 3: Stormy Stella - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 8/1)
Two-year-old turf sprinters line up to start our week and our selection is listed as an “also eligible” runner so two runners will need to scratch in order for her to draw into the body of the race. If she does, she’s shown the most ability of the ones who have run so far. She hails from a 19% barn and pairs up with a rider who wins 23% of his starts with this trainer.
Race 4: Tass - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)
Fillies and mares race a mile and a sixteenth on the turf and there’s not much speed in here and Tass – possibly the only one with early speed stretches out from a pair of turf sprints. That might mean she’s by herself early and if that’s the case, we’re looking for a gate to wire score. Low profile connections should keep the odds high for a trainer who wins with 20% of his runners stretching out. Two of this runner's three career wins have come at this distance. 10/1 odds would be more than fair value.

Race 6: Oliver’s Fortune - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 15/1)
Maiden claimers go 6 furlongs and in this field of 10, about half the runners don’t look like they can contend with the top runners here. Big Little Risk appears to have the controlling speed of this group but he’s not the most trustworthy favorite with only a third place finish to his credit. Instead, we’re siding with another runner who only has a third place finish to his credit but this one is 15/1. If we toss out his most recent start in the mud – a surface he doesn’t love, he owns speed figures on both dirt and turf that can win here. Low profile connections ensure a juicy price. Bombs away!
Race 10: Raining Candy - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 20/1)
State bred runners take to the lawn here and there are no world beaters signed on here so we’re going longshot hunting. Raining Candy races on turf for the second time for a dam who was Stakes placed on the lawn and who threw a 4-time turf winner. She’s been bumped at the start of both of her career efforts so she deserves another look here at long odds. If she runs to that breeding, WATCH OUT!
Good luck to everyone playing Wednesday’s races from Saratoga!
