What a day it was! Travers day might as well have been a Breeder’s Cup day and if Breeder’s Cup is anything like today was then we’re in for another treat. We began the day with a DOMINATING performance by our top selection in Whittington Park drawing away to win convincingly. In Race 6, After Five stalked the pace but had no kick when asked. In Race 7 our selection, Gamine, went to the lead and after she was allowed to set a soft opening quarter she was able to quicken and leave the field in her dust. In an unusual renewal of the Forego Stakes, Yaupon dueled with Firenze Fire from start to finish and just as Firenze Fire began to edge clear he savaged (BIT) Yaupon several times costing himself the win. Our selection, Doubly Blessed battled early but had nothing for the stretch drive. In Race 9, we had what may have been the race of the year so far as Jackie’s Warrior and Life is Good threw it down with Jackie’s Warrior prevailing by a hard fought neck over our selection. Many were saying later that an overconfident ride cost Life is Good that race. In Race 10, our selection - Royal Flag got the pace setup she needed and was motoring late, falling 1/2 length short for the win at odds of nearly 10/1 after getting bumped in the stretch. In the Sword Dancer Stakes we had another tough loss as Japan was boxed in much of the way, finally found room too late and fell a neck short running 2nd to Gufo. In the Travers, our BEST BET selection - Essential Quality ran down Midnight Bourbon in yet another exciting race.
All in all we gave out 8 selections on the day, had three winners - including a BEST BET, had two second place finishes and a third place finish. I hope everyone cashed some tickets today!
We look to close out the week with Sunday’s race card from Saratoga. We are expecting cloudy skies with fast and firm conditions. Let’s get to work!
Sunday picks for Saratoga:
Race 7: Montauk Daddy - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)
Turf sprinters line up here and this runner appears to have the best early speed in the field by far. He won on an off the turf race a week ago and wheels right back for a 28% trainer and a rider he’s winning at a remarkable 46% with. Gate to wire candidate.
Race 8: Beau Liam - 1 pt win - (US Morning Line Odds: 4/5)
Allowance runners sprint 6 1/2 furlongs and the last time Beau Liam ran he put up a speed figure of 106. For some perspective, Essential Quality put up a speed figure of 107 winning the Travers yesterday. I realize the distances they raced were very different but it paints the picture of the quality of this runner. The field he faced last time out was loaded and today’s field is slightly less loaded. Gate to wire.

Race 9: Straw Into Gold - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)
Three-year-olds race on turf and Chad Brown will take plenty of play here with Sifting Sands, but Straw Into Gold is likely to get a little overlooked here and his closing kick is just as strong. He also steals away Chad Brown’s main rider - Irad Ortiz. Value at 7/2.
Race 10: Molino - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 4/1)
Turf runners go a mile and a sixteenth here and there should be some solid pace on here and if that’s the case, the fields strongest closer is Molino who won his only start. That day he defeated Digital Software who won his next start. Chad Brown’s runners are going great right now. 4/1 is good value.
Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Saratoga!!
