Saturday’s Recap from Saratoga:

(All odds US)

Saratoga:

Race 1: SCRATCH

Race 6: 7th@ 1.60/1

Race 7: 7th@ 39.00/1

Race 8: 2nd@ 3.40/1

Race 9: 1st@ 0.40/1 ✈️✈️✈️

We began the day with a unique situation. Our selection - HP Moon was scratched at the gate because the horse identifier at Saratoga wasn’t comfortable that the listed markings matched the horse. Something I’ve heard racetrack stories about but have never seen. So with the day off to an interesting start we moved right to our bomb of the day in Races 6 and 7 Doctor Davis who was making her first start, and Say Moi who was making his second turf start. Both vied for the lead before tiring. In the Grade 1 Vanderbilt Stakes, Special Reserve stalked the pace and pounced and fought gamely to the wire losing to 34/1 shot Lexitonian. In the Jim Dandy, heavily favored Essential Quality ended up best over Keepmeinmind and will now head to the Travers as the heavy favorite. A first and a second from four picks.

We’ll close out the week with some Sunday races at Saratoga. There’s an 80% chance of rain later on tomorrow afternoon

Let’s get moving:

Sunday picks for Saratoga:

Race 1: Everesting - 2 pts win - BEST BET- (US Morning Line Odds: 2/1)

Trainer Saffie Joseph has always excelled with lower-level stock. This weekend he took a few chances in stakes races at Saratoga but his charges didn’t fire. Everesting lays over this field from a numbers standpoint and gets top rider Tyler Gaffalione here from the inside position.

Race 5: Whittington Park - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)

Trainer Brad Cox is winning at a ridiculous 42% to start this Saratoga meet and just won the Jim Dandy with Essential Quality. Ten Strike Racing is a pretty shrewd ownership group that uses several trainers but seems to send their best to Cox. This runner is sired by Midnight Lute out of a Forestry mare which means he should have speed from the inside post.

Race 9: Crowded Trade - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)

A murderer’s row of three-year-old sprinters line up here for the Grade 2 Amsterdam and River Dog, Jackie’s Warrior and Drain the Clock are the three likely favorites and all three have major early speed. Crowded Trade took a failed run at the Triple Crown trail but gave a good account of himself with second place finishes in the Gotham and Wood Memorial respectively. He owns the best closing kick of this bunch and should mow them down in the lane.

Race 10: Escapology - 1 pt win - (US MORNING LINE ODDS: 20/1)

Maiden claimers close out our day and our selection raced on turf in an ugly debut however we can forgive that loss as he’s not especially turf bred. He picks up a hot rider in Joel Rosario for a barn that’s going well with 18% wins this meet and typically fires a few bombs every summer at Saratoga. Bombs away to end the day.

Best of luck 🍀🍀🍀🍀to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Saratoga!
