Race replays from Saratoga can be found here:
Race 2: 4th@ 5.90/1
Race 4: 2nd@ 1.40/1
Race 5: 6th@ 14.70/1
Race 10: 3rd@ 1.20/1
Today was one of those days that made my hairline recede another 1/8th of an inch. A second a third and a fourth place finish from four picks. In Race 2, our selection, Larceny, stumbled at the start losing 3 lengths right off the bat. He closed to pass tired horses in the lane but never overcame the stumbling start. From there we finished 2nd with Ready AP who was unable to run down a loose leader - Run Curtis Run in the Rick Violette Stakes. In Race 5, Honorable Rose got more pace pressure than I thought she’d get and she wilted in the lane. In Race 10, I loaded up on Damilano for a healthy win bet at odds of 7/5 here in the States. Some European punters reached out telling me they got odds of 33/1 on this horse so I was EXCITED to make some money for everyone. After breaking poorly, he was taken back to last. Into the lane he made a run in between horses and never looked comfortable. I’m disappointed with the ride we got today from Luis Saez but that’s how the cookie crumbles.
Undaunted, we look ahead to Thursday’s races we’re expecting a fast main track and firm(er) turf courses. Let’s get to work:
Thursday picks for Saratoga:
Race 6 Derrynane - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 5/2)
Derrynane sticks out as a play. First time starter sired by Quality Road who wins with 14% of his debut runners. This one’s dam won first time on turf for these same connections. This one has been working in company with debut winner from Sunday - Senbei - who won off impressively by 5 lengths. Joel Rosario rides and I’m expecting a strong debut here.

Race 8: Lovely Lucky - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/5)
Turf marathoners race a mile and three eighths on the lawn and simply put, if Lovely Lucky is ready off the January layoff then everyone else is running for second place. She’s proven she can win at this track and distance and her speed figures tower over these. Top rider is the cherry on top.
Race 9: Portilla - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/1)
We’re taking this runner off the stretch out to a mile and an eighth from 7 furlongs but trainer Al Stall has won with a remarkable 38% of runners routing here at Saratoga from a sample size of 16 runners. This includes a winner we caught last weekend - Mystical Man. This runner has been working well and is bred to run all day with Mineshaft in her sire’s bloodlines and Giant’s Causeway on the dam's side.
Best of luck 🍀🍀🍀 to everyone playing Thursday’s races from Saratoga!
