A friend called and told me to watch the replay from the 4th at Ellis on July 2. She said there is a horse names Tiz The Bomb that Spendthrift has that gave a fantastic performance. I did and she was right. For a 2yo to turn in fractions of :47, 1:12 & 1:37 with the hammer lock on the reigns for almost the entire trip that Brian Hernandez had on this colt, was impressive. He won by 14 and was not breathing hard.

Shhh…don’t tell anyone 😊

Last time writing, my selection of Coo Bird at Woodbine stayed in range, went four wide on the turn and finished gamely, yet too late. He got up for third. Kneesnhips at Ellis got a brilliant ride by James Graham drawing her along the along the rail late and winning it, paying $7.00/$4.00.

Today we have two races, and they are both later tonight. One is from Penn National, and the other is from Presque Isle Downs.

Penn National Race 4 - $27.1K Maiden Special

3yo’s↑ going five furlongs on turf

#4 Dreaming Of Gerry (2/1) is a 3yo gelding out of Liam’s Map who debuted on turf last year at Saratoga in a route and frankly, ran poorly. Shipped south, he ran at Tampa four times in the winter into early spring before being sent to Delaware for his last race on June 2. All those races were on dirt. Now, kudos to his connections for not panicking and dropping him into the claiming ranks, however, if today is not fruitful, this may be his last crack at this level. His record of 8/0-3-2 has shown that losing has become a habit and if challenged, he has too much give up in him. That said, every horse from his last race has returned to improved Equibase numbers and if that holds up, he will be tough to beat. There is going to be two fleas in the ointment and that will be #8 Mac Ninety (6/1) a first time starter out of Violence who has just turned in a :35 and a 1:01 from the gate in his last two workouts and #7 Uncle Roamie (5/2), the speed in this race. Violence first timers on turf tend to blast out of the gate and if they make their way to the turn and he is in front of, or challenging both Uncle Roamie and Dreaming Of Gerry, this can be trouble for the favorite on two fronts – new surface and the propensity to wuss out. In the case of Uncle Roamie, if you asked jockey Carlos Montalvo if he’d like to have the race two back over again except at a different track than Monmouth, you would likely get a resounding yes as he had a two length lead at the top of the stretch and no crop to keep his horse’s mind on running. He ended up losing by almost three lengths. That race was his first attempt on turf and he returned to dirt in his last at Delaware to a dull effort. We are going to see a better horse today.

My play in this race is exacta 4/8-7, 7/4-8 and a win/place on Uncle Roamie.

Presque Isle Downs Race 5 - $30K Maiden Special

3yo’s↑ going 5.5 furlongs

There is emphatically no way I am going to take the favorite #5 Titrate (2/1) in this race. He has run too erratically his entire young career thus far. Now, he has changed barns and has not had a workout at the track. I am going to put my money on # 2 Grounded (3/1), a Gulfstream shipper who debuted at low odds, set the pace then tired, under the tutelage of Edgar Zayas. Tonight, he will get a more assertive ride out of Pablo Morales, has had two brisk workouts over the surface, second Lasix, and he scored a Group 1 in his Breeze Figs:
