There are three 2yo races slated today. Two of them are from Churchill Downs and one of them is from Belmont Park.
Belmont Park Race 1 - $75K Maiden Special Weight
NY State 2yo’s going 5.5f
There is no doubt about it, #6 Coinage (1/1) is the one to beat. The $450K Keeneland September yearling sale colt needed an extra half furlong in his debut, and he would have won. He put up an 83 Equibase score for that effort and today he gets that extra half furlong. Although highly unlikely, he might get some competition from #3 Juggler (9/5), a Kelly Breen trained colt (15% first timers) whose dam, Alpha Kitten, has three other foals and one of them was a first time winner (33%). He's had one sharp gate work, a :48.8 and a solid breeze at 1:01.8 of late.
Churchill Downs Race 1 - $50K Maiden Claimer
2yo Fillies going five furlongs
I am going to side with #2 Diva Dixie (9/2) who comes out of a key race with Artos on April 22, where Ruthin won. Ruthin raced yesterday at Royal Ascot and finished a game 7th of 30 runners with Frankie Dettori aboard. She had a solid 1:02 breeze from the gate at Ellis on June 6, so she should be a in the hunt today.
Churchill Downs Race 3 - $100K Maiden Special Weight
2yo Fillies going 5.5 furlongs on turf
Why bandy about here? For the same reasons as race one, we’ll go with #10 U So Money Baby (12/1).
