Race 9: 2nd@ 5.90-1 (US ODDS)

Race 10: 1st@ 1.30-1 (US ODDS) 🔥🔥🔥

It was a generally cloudy day today at Churchill Downs but the rain held off all day... almost... Actually, right before Race 7, the heavens opened up and it poured and poured. In Race 8, our selection - Quixotic had nothing at any point in his return race from a long layoff in a disappointing effort. In Race 9, our selection - Vodka N Water - checked early on in the race and finished a closing second without threatening the winner. We got our revenge in Race 10 when our BEST BET - Bear’s Alley went to the lead and lead from start to finish through the sloppy Churchill Downs stretch.

Looking ahead to Thursday’s racing action, we’re headed back to Gulfstream Park where we’ve done quite well lately before covering Churchill Downs again for Friday‘s and Saturday’s GIGANTIC stakes cards. We expect sunny skies and warm temperatures with a fast and firm track.

Let’s get this party started:

Thursday Picks

Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: Marisa’s Mission - 1 pt win

Maiden claimers line up to sprint 7 furlongs and based on numbers, Grand Wiser is very much the horse to beat here. In his most recent start, he put up a speed figure that was about 20 points higher than most of these have run so far. The thing that gets me is the fact that he’s going to have to negotiate an extra furlong today and while he may do it, I’m opposed to taking a short price. Instead I’m siding with second time starter Marisa's Mission who’s running second time out but first time on dirt as he finished 8th on the lawn in his debut. He’s not bred much for turf according to his Tomlinson figure so I’m hoping for better on dirt. Furthermore, he put in a strong closing kick first time out on turf according to his time form ratings and gets blinkers today for a trainer who won with a turf to dirt / blinkers on move back in 2019. Bombs away to start the day!

Time is running out!!! Readers of Bettors Insider are getting a bonus preview of my day’s selections. These bonus previews will end on Kentucky Oaks day, April 30, 2021. Race 4: Starry Hope - 1 pt win

Maiden claimers line up here to run 7 1/2 furlongs and last time out, Starry Hope ran a winning race. The problem was that she faced a MUCH better rival in Kahiko that day but she was nearly 4 lengths ahead of the third place runner that day and wasn’t afraid to use her early speed. The field she faces today has no runners that look like Kahiko and the lack of early pace may just give Starry Hope a tactical advantage. Low profile connections ensure a nice price but this trainer has a win percentage of 19% for the year. Value play.

Best of luck 🍀🍀🍀 to all members playing Thursday’s races from Gulfstream Park.
