We kicked Saturday off with a non-effort by Roadhouse Blues in Race 2 at Gulfstream Park. Our BEST BET - Flamingo Hawk gave a decent account of himself but could do no better than 2nd to his stablemate in Race 4 at Gulfstream. Over at Keeneland, Get Hammered got pace pressure and didn’t have enough in the tank at crunch time, fading in the lane. Silver Dust won a stretch-long battle to take the Ben Ali stakes in an exciting finish. Besos came up empty once the real running began in the Lexington Stakes. Over at Aqueduct, Caramocha never showed up in her turf debut and Analyze It - who looked like a good thing, bled and was pulled back to last in Race 8 at Aqueduct. In the Arkansas Derby, Concert Tour was the heavy favorite but looked like the distance got the better of him as he wilted in the lane. I wonder if they’ll still consider the Kentucky Derby for him as he didn’t seem to handle the distance well.

We look to rebound on Sunday at Gulfstream where there’s a chance of rain in the forecast for the afternoon. Here are our selections:

Sunday Picks

Gulfstream Park:

Race 5: Fear the Deer - 2 pts win - BEST BET

This race is currently slated to be run at a mile on turf but whether this gets rained off the turf or not, Fear the Deer is our selection. This runner has raced twice on turf at higher levels and hasn’t run poorly. His speed figures are 8 points ahead of the best number anyone else in the field has put up this year and with only two races under his belt, he still has upside. Fear the Deer indeed.

Race 8: Ms. Chaplin - 1 pt win

Weak group of claimers here but I’ve always been taught that speed can be lethal in these types of situations and Ms. Chaplin offers just that. She comes off a September layoff for a trainer who’s already had a 17-1 winner at the meet. She’s already proven she can fire fresh several times as she won a race with a speed figure of 57 last March off a 4 month layoff. She just worked a bullet workout and this low profile jockey/trainer combo has won 45% of their races together. Interesting longshot.

Best of luck 🍀🍀 to all our members playing races from Gulfstream Park on Sunday !
