Saturday’s Recap from Fair Grounds and Gulfstream Park:
Race 11: 4th@ 5.70-1
Race 12: SCRATCHED
Race 13: 2nd@ 3.40-1
Race 14: 6th@ 1.40-1
Race 8: 4th@ 4.00-1
Race 9: 1st@ 1.30-1 🔥🔥🔥🔥
We started the day finding out that Factor This - our selection in Race 12 at Fair Grounds scratched with a foot bruise. We went 1 for 5. In the New Orleans, Roadster ran a tough race off that long layoff leading til mid stretch when he was overhauled and finished 4th. In the Fair Grounds Oaks, Travel Column stalked a slow pace and took off turning for home leaving our choice - Clairiere with too much to do. She ran well to be second. I’m looking forward to a rematch in the Kentucky Oaks. In the Louisiana Derby, it was Hot Rod Charlie who won gate to wire while our selection, Mandaloun ran an awful 6th. I’m guessing something went wrong but hope the horse is all right. It’s hard to imagine he’ll go forward towards the Kentucky Derby after that non-effort. Disappointing to say the least but it happens. It’s all part of the game. Over at Gulfstream, we made two selections and finished 4th with Everesting who was making his dirt debut. We got our win for the day courtesy of Tiesto in Race 9 where he overcame an imperfect trip after hopping at the start, to mow down the leaders and hold off the closers under a well-timed ride.
Happy to be moving back to racing at Gulfstream Park where we expect to see sunny ☀️ skies with fast and firm conditions. Let’s get to work:
Race 1: Mauro’s Team - 1 pt win
Maiden claimers take to the turf here to run a flat mile. Count Down might make some noise from the outside but is coming off such a long layoff and now drops in class. I like Mauro’s Team. While a few in here have similar numbers, upon viewing replays Mauro’s Team caught bad traffic in the lane late in his last race. His race prior to that had him moving best late.
Race 2: Cajun Lady - 1 pt win
Maiden claiming fillies sprinting here and trainer Michael Yates who’s winning at 22% at the meet teams with his main rider - Mario Vasquez to send out Cajun Lady off an Oct. 31 layoff. This is the second start of her career and she didn’t show much first time out but she drops in class and is bred to do much better. Her recent works have been good enough and trainer Yates has a win percentage of 75% with runners returning off layoffs of 61-180 days going first time Lasix. Price play.

Race 10: Lexintonia - 2 pts win - BEST BET
Turf sprinters race 5 furlongs and my selection has been away for some time but has been working well. Jockey Junior Alvarado is on quite a tear lately and while trainer Christophe Clement started the meet slowly, he’s caught fire over the last few weeks. Wins at 19% with this type of layoff and 23% with turf sprinters. I like that they didn’t drop this one into a claiming race off the long layoff. They must see some promise.
Best of luck 🍀🍀🍀🍀 to all our members playing Sunday’s races from Gulfstream Park.
