God's Tipster picks Friday's 1st, 5th and 10th races at Gulfstream Park

First race is 1:10 pm EST.

US Racing Expert - March 5th

Thursday’s Recap from Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: 5th@ 15-1

Race 2: 4th@ 0.70-1

We were left with two selections after a scratch in Race 4. In Race 1, our longshot came flying too late to get to the speeds. At 15-1 he was still a better bet than our selection in Race 2 - Ultimate Gift who received only mild pressure before wilting in the lane. I see that he was claimed out of the race by Gilberto Zerpa. Good luck winning a race with that one. Yikes.

We look to get back to our winning ways at Gulfstream with a few races on Friday’s card where temperatures will be mild once again with an expected fast main track and a firm turf course. Let’s take a look:

Friday at Gulfstream Park:

Race 1: Kolohe Prince - 1 pt win

We kick off a Friday of racing with a bottom-level maiden claiming race for three-year-olds and while this looks like a pretty weak bunch overall, our selection actually ran a winning race last time out after being steadied early. He began the race with an aggressive early move and sustained that move for most of the race. That’s not something I saw in any of the other replays of runners entered here. Trainer Brian Lynch and jockey Jose Ortiz combine for 18% wins and Lynch wins with 24% of his maiden claimers overall. A repeat of his last effort would make him awfully tough here.

Race 5: Captain Lava - 1 pt win

Maiden runners take to the turf and run a mile and Captain Lava has only raced twice but in his most recent start he finished a tough second to Bugle of War at Tampa Bay Downs where he faced better. A repeat of either one of his starts would probably put him in the winners circle. It’s not often we get 12-1 on the runner with two of the top three speed figures in the race.

Race 10: Tropicat - 1 pt win

Trainer Ralph Nicks is one of those south Florida-based trainers who gets streaky. When he’s cold he’s ice cold but when he’s hot, his barn can really fire off wins. He runs Tropicat here in this turf sprint race to close out the card. In addition to having the highest last-race speed figure by 7 points over his next closest competitor, Nicks is riding a 42% win percentage (5 winners from 12 runners) over the past two weeks. Those numbers include a 2 for 2 record with turf sprinters. Anywhere close to 3-1 is value here.
