Yesterday I took a shot at betting The Orleans stakes at Delta Downs. #2 Misty May was bet down from a 9/2 ML, broke poorly from the gate, had a 4 wide trip the whole race and got up for 2nd, to pay $3 to place. Maybe with a better break and position she wins, maybe not. The winner, #4 She’s My Gem won the race almost right at the QTR mark. Dominquez sat her perfectly right off the pace to sling shot by and win with ease. The horse took some action, paying $13 to Win after being bet down from at 15-1 morning line. Shout out to Teddy in Denver, he brought She’s My Gem to my eye prior to post, which led to me tweeting about her. If you follow @blinkersoff420, @bettorsinsider I mentioned the action the 4 was taking and to tread lightly with horses you like that now have odds you do not like.

Today I like the Early Pick 5 Sequence at Gulfstream Park, which is like a box of chocolates, all mixed up.

Race 1 – Md 25000 Turf 7 ½ Furlongs 3 YO

I love how horse racing always challenges me. I looked at the first race initially thinking I can single and nope. I am using 4 horses in race 1, the intention is to beat the #1 & #8, who are both ML favorites.

2 Andres Eduardo – Tough to use a 0/8 maiden but at 5-1, slight drop and the Lasix first time I will accept 5-1 odds.

3 Uncaptured Pulse – I am throwing out the last race and eyeing the 47.1 workout from 11/21. Maybe she can run?

4 Sweeny’s Cat – I went back and forth but will use since he has run less than the favorites with a 50 Beyer last out.

6 The Zip Factor - I like the connections, I like the odds, I like the workout note and at 10-1 ML in this field I will use.

2-3-4-6

Race 2 – Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Upward, Claiming Price 6250, One Mile, Dirt

I like two horses this race, the #1 Papa’s Little Girl I will use 100 percent because of pace. A clear advantage with a TimeFormUS early pace #103, plus the #1 hole. No price will be given for the five-year-old Peter Walder trained mare. I cannot get away from the 81 Beyer Baccarat Fashion, #6 posted. It may have been a year ago but sometimes change is good and the mare is going back to a mile after running several sprints.

1-6

Race 3 – State Bred Fillies, MSW 40k, 7 Furlongs on Dirt

Either you single the #5 Skylfly at the short odds of 9-5 or you play against. Race 3 really is that simple and I will single the #5. I went back and forth, through each horse in Race 3 and I keep thinking Skyfly will be able to improve off the highest Beyer # already in the field. I am interested to see how the #1 Schakolad runs though, some fire workouts. This is a get buy leg, I will single the short price favorite but lay off other action.

#5

Race 4 – Four Years Old and Upward, Claiming Price 50k, Turf, 1 1/16M

I debated on using a few horses here and that is what I will end up doing. On paper the race looks to set up nicely for the #3, Stirling Drive, #6 Morocco and the #8, Financial System. I am not thrilled about this race, but they some have beaten up on each other and we will see whose turn it is. If the #1, Blueridge Traveler can work out a trip he may crash the party at 12-1.

3-4-6-8

Race 5 – Maiden, Fillies, Three Years Old, Claiming Price 12500, Dirt, One Mile

I end up on #9, Brody’s Honor and the other logical horse, the #12, Hot Babe who will challenge for the lead from the outside post. She should be able to clear though and head the way going home in the one turn mile.

9-12

Overall, the pick 5 sequence is a fun one and I look forward to watching it. Below is the base ticket and I wish all the readers best of luck playing the greatest game on earth today.

2,3,4,6 / 1,6 / 5 / 3,4,6,8 / 9, 12

$1 / $64
